Do you use CB's while riding? Couple questions.

I've been thinking of getting a set of GMRS radios to add to our FRS ones to get a little extra range. We usually keep close togther but sometimes when either riding or hunting we'll get just a little too far for the FRS models. I looked at a government website and at the forms that have to be filled out for the license and couldn't figure them out. Can anyone who knows how let me/us in on the secret? it just seemed overly complicated for someone who justs wants to use it everyonce in awhile. Also, how long is the license for? A year, five years or life? $70 a year is a little steep for just a little use.
Thanks,
LY

I think it is a one time 75 dollar fee.
When you buy the radios they should have a license application with them. If not then you would have to go through the FCC website or request an application. There are phone numbers on the FCC site.
More often than not people who get the radios don’t bother getting the license.

Yes, the forms ARE complicated. There is a place that you send your info to, that will file the paperwork for you for about another $30. You pay this once, as the renewals are more or less automatic, as long as you send the government money. I got the info off the radio maker's website (Motorola).

Does anyone have the helmet mounted radois to talk to each other? I don't know how far they reach but I have seen several people on the trails with them. They have them for street bikes and I think they just put them in their dirt bike helmets. You might want to check them out. For the life of me I cant remember the names though but I do know they are listed in some catalogs I have. So it must be ATV or street bike related.

I ended up taking the GMRS radios back to the store. They just didn't do what I needed them to do.
The helmet mounted radio would be nice. It's a little hard listening and operating a hand held while driving.

Ok I have a 2002 450 Foreman and I was wanting to put a CB on my Foreman. I want one like in the Rigs. I want to put one on their because where we ride it is about 6 or 7 of us who ride over there and I have already almost had one head on collision. I was hoping everybody who rode over there would agree with me on putting a cb on the quad so we can keep tack of everybody. I was wanting one I could plug inot my cigeratte light, one cheap, about 3 or 4 mile range. I have been thru the whole GRMS radio thing and the recharging isnt up to the use I will put it thru. So I was hoping some body could tell me where I could get a CB radio for about $20 bucks maybe. I plan on gettin about a 4 foot antenna and putting it on the front rack cause it wil catch spider webs, and it is flexible so when i go under a tree it will bend back. Thanks

No I havent though of a place to put it besides the front racks but that would allow water in wouldnt it ? Daggonit, My GMRS Radios are supposed to be 5 mile range but I was thinkin of buying a CB antenna anyway and figure out some way to hook the GMRS Radio to it. But I dont know I havent took a electronic class so I dont really know what Im talking about.
