Going to be using a Yamaha 660 Grizz for mowing. Which is better, a front or rear mounted mower?
Looks like the front mounted types may be a bit easier to maneuver.
Any brands to look at or stay away from?

Mower will be used for somewhat rough yard and some trail use.

Hi Mort,

I'm looking at mowers as well and was hoping for a bigger response on this thread - but anyways. I'm looking at the Swisher RT-44, but never heard of a front mounted mower. Do you have a manufacture name or web pointer?

Thanks

The one I have seen I believe was the cycle country quicksilver 54 finish mower. Really expensive though.

Check out

I also posted this question to the Yamaha forum and there were some responses you might want to check out.

I've been using a 44" Swisher - it's a trailer mower, drag behind. Mows pretty good, wasn't too expensive ($850 at Tractor Supply) and it's real hard to ground it out. Mower blades are right in line with the wheels, so if the wheels clear it, the blades do.

Swisher also sells a 60" belly mower for a quad. Looks real good, but it costs an arm and a leg.

I too have been looking at rough cut mowers. There are a few of them out there, all are pretty expensive. The best built one, and most expensive, seems to be the acrease (see www.kunzeng.com). It has a 17 - 20 hp engine which is much bigger than others. If you plan to use it for 20yrs it may be worth the high price tag.

The swisher mower is an outstanding unit. Their web site is www.swisherinc.com

Got the swisher T60 3 yrs drag behind for traxter, mine was sold by polaris. It has an adaptor so it can be mounted on front, cept I have dusty sandy pasture and I think It would choke me if I had it in front,It does trim around stuff easier with it mounted on front.I wouldn't buy the honda motor the Tech is fine just change oil.Parts fr all swishers at Tractor supply.Been good just the usual prob's.
all the best,

I have mowed my 1 acre+ yard for the first time with a Swisher 44" Trailmower, I opted for the 12.5 hp with electric start and remote blade clutch engaging lever (by cable and the electric start keyswitch is on the same piece). It did a super job the first time out, and I have a fairly thick finished yard. I'm pulling mine behind a 550 Mule and the combination works pretty well.....I'll be adding mirrors to the Mule soon to keep a better eye on the mower though.

I'm looking for a rough cut mower too. The Kunz is quite a bit more expensive than the Swisher. Is the Kunz that much better???
