Well, the first thing to do is decide what type of quad you want--utility, side-by-side, sport, sport-utility, etc. Think about the type of riding you will be doing, as that will narrow the choices. Set your dollar budget; that will help you decide new or pre-owned.

Sounds like a sport-utility would be your best bet--good for trail use and work around the house.
Now, I'm biased--I have a 2008 Suzuki King Quad 400 that I use for the exact same purposes you are interested in. I chose it because of its utility, performance, reliability, size/weight, and price.
2008-09 King Quad 400's are essentially 2002-07 Suzuki Eiger 400's with the newer King Quad bodywork. Eiger's are renown for their quality and reliability. Large after-market support available. Current US prices are around $4,500 for '08 automatics; shifters are about $200-300 less.
I have the Rocky Mountain ATV Tusk 50" plow mounted on my KQ, and it has absolutely no trouble pushing even "Cascade Concrete" snow off the driveway and road (I don't know who is happier with my KQ400-me or my neighbors-ha ha).
Do your homework, then find the best deal you can.

Thanks for the reply KQ400Pilot. I'm trying my best to do the homework though I find it hard since I always called it sport and utility and now I find out there is like mid sports full sport and stuff haha. I guess a pure sport one would look like a racer and a half sport/utility looks like a utility?
I'm looking for a 07 or 08 but where I live to buy a new ATV it has to be pretty much new or if its used they have to offer financing.
I checked stores like Honda and Yamaha and there selling machines even the 08's at like 8 grand... I mean yes the Canadian dollar sucks right now but its not that bad... These damn importers are screwing me over I guess..
That's why I'm looking into some of them from North Shore Car Company
Not sure if I can post the URL but they have some nice deals well I think there deals some used some very new to new.
I was told they bring them from the states into Canada.
I have a thread on this also here:

Check the web pages of the various manufacturers; that will give you a good idea on how they define utility vs sport-utility. I consider ATVs like the Kawasaki "Mule"--and its competitors a utility quad--they have features such as cargo and dump beds, etc. My Predator is an example of a pure sports quad.

You're not that far from Rochester or Buffalo, New York. Check their Craigslist sites for atv's in those cities (look under both the motorcycle and RV catagories). If they are importing them from the US, you might as well check the US listings and eliminate the middle man.
Suggest you set up a loan or line of credit at your local credit union if you want to finance your new atv; then you will be able to pounce on a good deal.
Note-Craigslist and E-bay are full of scams, so, under no circumstances, should you wire transfer funds. Personally inspect the quad, make your offer, and only when the owner produces the vehicle title, hand over a cashiers check for the purchase.
