Smile Polaris 500 stuck in gear

Hello-

I hope someone can help me out there. I have a 2002 Polaris 500 ATV and it is stuck in gear (will not go into reverse or neutral). I am trying to disconnect the linkage arms from the shift box but I can't seem to get them loose. The nuts turn and the bolt that runs through turns as well and I can't seem to see how you secure the top portion to prevent the spinning so I can "back off" the nut to remove the linkage arm. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Semofan

Hi Semofan, to start are you able to shift the gears when engine is off?

Default Polaris 500 ATV stuck in gear

With the engine off and the linkage arms disconnected from the shiftbox I can move the gear stick to different positions. With the linkage arm connected it will not budge when the engine is on or off.

Is your linkage bent or hitting something oh wait a minute. Inside where your linkage is mounted on the tranny there's a 2 piece gear in there and sometimes mud and everything else gets in there causing it to strip. remove the cover and have a look and see if it's full of mud. My buddy had the same issue on his 04 700 sp and what I did was I welded it at the right spot because polaris wanted too much for the part and we wanted to go riding.lol

Default 02 polaris still stuck

Mid City Mudder-

I just checked out the little gear where the linkage connects to the tranny
and I cleaned it up good and it is still frozen. The front linkage arm is
connected to the shifters that go into the shift box (HI and Reverse) and it
is in the neutral position along with the LO (rear linkage) yet the tranny
is still engaged in forward HI so I dont know - what do you think?

Thanks,
Semofan

Inside the gear selector on the tranny there's what looks like a half moon gear, it's a 2 piece part, there's also a splined output shaft and the 1 piece that fits over that is what usually strips. check it out and let me know.

I took the little "loop" gear that goes over the "post" gear cleaned them both and put it back on and still nothing. What do you think? Thanks for your help on this.
