Hi just registered.
Wanted to say hi to all. I'm not a kid actually but a big kid who never grew up! Lol
I have a couple of recreational vehicles I have acquired and am in the process of getting running again and hopefully will be able to enjoy riding some day in the near future as I haven't had the time prior to now.
I have a 1982 Yamaha 125 3 wheeler, a 1971 honda minitrail, as well as several other motorcycles some in various process of disassembly and reassembly as well as my 1981 Goldwing which is still intact.
I haven't actually riden the wing for a few years and just as I'm working on these little projects I now will have to make an concerted effor to get at the wing and get the old gas out of it and hopefully it hasn't varnished up yet so I can flush the fuel system out and at least get it started. it sist behind a mountain of other clutter and stuff I've collected.
My projects at hand however are the minitrail and the yamaha.
The honda minitrail I've begun to diagnose a no spark no start condition which I've recently purchased new points and condensor to install.
The Yamaha I just dragged out from under my deck and tore it apart as it was running when I bought it and I new it would require a top end even before I had a chance to actually enjoy it. So it sat under my deck for a few years until now.
My question to somone who knows theses beasties a bit better than I?
It appears that from looking at the piston from this machine that it has already been either bored out or an oversize cylinder and piston installed as the marking on the top of the piston has a 25 on it which I'd take to be .025" oversize.
The machine when I got it didn't seem to have much compression and that's why I thought a top end was in order as it took quite a bit of pulling to get it running and didn't have much power.
Since I've taken it apart the pistion doesn't look too bad actually nor does the cylinder wall. The rings however don't appear to have much tension left and when I insert the piston into the bore from the bottom it nearly sldes all the way to the top (so I don't think that's good from y younger days fooling with lawn mowers 'n stuff)
In any event my additional question is how many times can a cylinder be bored out before it has to be replaced?
Hope someone has an answer? Lol
Regards,
Ron
