Greenhorn from Missouri here saying hi. Been working on a project all winter....bought a 98 polaris sportsman 500 4x4, no oil pressure, didnt run, makes ya want to go hmmmmmm doesnt it ?? lol, anyway got it for cheap and decided to overhaul it. Normally this would not be a big deal, right? But I have never even owned a 4 wheeler before!!, lots of dirt bikes over the years, last one was a YZ400, mean ****!!So me and a buddy buy a manual, and over the winter completely overhaul the engine, split cases and all, what a weird desighned motor it is!! bored it,put a wiseco piston in it, new bearings, water pump seal, everything. Got it running last weekend, rode the heck out it, and absolutely love it, what a Beast!! Got a few more things to do on it before she is ready for the trails, rear brake, front winch bumper and winch, adjust the shifting linkages a little, minor stuff. I live about 10 miles from Cloud 9 Ranch, its a membership resort which is very , very ATV friendly. Ranch has 6500 acres, and dozens of miles of atv trails! Cant wait ti hit some of them!! This Polaris has been a great learning exp for me , and from what I hear , I picked a good bike to start with ) Will post some pics soon.
