Thinking of getting an ATV
#1
Hello, I just moved to a place out in the country and my roomie tells me there's plenty of places to go 4 wheeling out here. I've only ridden one once, but it was fun and I'm thinking of getting an ATV or dirt bike, not sure which.
I'm definitely leaning towards a newer 4 stroke model, I don't want the hassles of a 2 stroke. I'm thinking a 2wd since it would be cheaper and I'm a beginner.
I'm also a Honda guy (got two motorcycles) but I'm open to suggestions.
What might be the oldest 4 stroke I can get my hands on? I do all my own work on my bikes so being a little old and needing maintenance is no prob.
What would you guys recommend?

Welcome to the forums.
First question would be what type of riding will you be doing? Trials, sand, mud? What size are you?
Lots of older and not so old models out there and some great bargains if you're patient and handy with a wrench.
If it were me, and I was looking at 2wd, Honda 4 stroke for a beginner, I'd say a 300 or 400ex. Easy to take care of, dependable and lots of add on parts for later when you want to add the mods.

Unless you are looking to use it for work or hunting, go for a sport model. They had smaller 4 stroke sport models starting in '85/86 thru now, so plenty of machines out there. I think that the 400 class is a great place to start for an adult, especially one with bike experience. In your case the bigger motors are not out of the question either.
