Default What 2 Buy

Hi, I am new to the forum and new to the world of ATV's.
Maybe I can get a little advice on what to buy in the way of an ATV that will fit my needs.

I live in Western North Carolina on a hard packed road in a rural area. I am looking for an ATV to cruise the roads and also get into the woods. Very close to me is the Wayahutta ATV trail system, I would like to explore there also.
I am not sure if I should buy new or used. Saw a 2008 Honda Rancher (used) on Craigslist for $4000, but looking at the Honda page I found that the Rancher might be too small (?).

What features should I look for? What should I look at when looking at a used machine besides kicking the tires.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums. For better response to your question post it in the General ATV section and let people know how much experience you have, your general physical build, what you plan to do, and the terrain you anticipate encountering on your rides.

In reply o a couple of posts, I do believe that I am looking for a 'Utility' ATV but then again I am new to this.

I will be reposting my topic in the general discussion area.

Thanks
