Default New here and need help

Hello all,

I'm new to the 4 wheeler world.....believe it or not. I'm an avid 3 wheeler guy, but due to a new house with a big driveway, I'm now in the market for a quad to plow my driveway.

First, money is an issue, so I've been relegated to the daily searches on Craigslist.

I've found 2 that I'm interested in but I just can't decide. So this is where I need some help.

1. 1986 honda fourtrax 350 4x4 in good cond. with winch and plow -$1,800

2. 2000 yamaha big bear 400 4x4 with a winch in good shape, but some cracks in plastics. - $1,300

I'm not sure which is the better quad, or which one would plow snow better.

Yamaha is newer and more cc for pushing, so if the cracks aren't too bad I'd go for that. Of course, you would then need to buy a plow. I don't know anything specific about either one (I'm a Kawasaki guy) but the Yamaha might be an automatic as new as it is and easier to shift for plowing as the Honda would be a manual shift.

Thanks. They are both clutch less shifting. Not a big fan of that, but any automatic in my price range is typically a Polaris 2 stroke.....but neighbors probably wouldn't care for that too much. I also plan to use it for yard work. My Big Red 250es is my trail riding toy.

I'd also go for the Yamaha as long as it is running well. Honda is a little more reliable but Yamaha's are generally pretty bulletproof. The Yamaha is a little heavier which will help with getting traction to push the snow. With the $500 you save you should be able to pick up a plow. Also, the Yamaha may have a way to fully lock the front (Or it is a limited slip front. I can't remember.) I know the Honda has a limited slip front that is just a little bit less in the traction department than a quad with a full locker.

Appreciate the help. I was leaning towards the yammy, but my gut kept telling me Honda is bulletproof. But on the same note, the yammy is 14 years newer. It's probably a lot bigger too.

Cool

Only advantage of the Honda is you'd already have the plow and the hookups and such would be on. For a plow I'd personally go with Moose but if you are just wanting something cheap go with whatever Cycle Country offers.
