Default Hey from LI - NY

Hello there! Glad to be a part of the community! Long story short, last Christmas my wife and I purchased two 125cc Chinese quads for our 10 and 13 year old boys. They love riding and my 13 year old wants the next step. Looking for opinions/suggestions!!

My son is 90 lbs wet and about 5' tall. Wants to rip around in the snow down our streets and get competitive and race in the nice weather here in the N East. Looking for a bullet proof ATV that he can rip with and have success/fun.

All help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums.

Not up on sport quads. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Welcome to the forums.

If you can get him out and have him sit on a quad to see how well it fits him ergonomically, that would be best.

What type of racing? Would 2 or 4wd be needed?

A nice affordable for you, dependable for him 2wd sport would be a Honda 300ex. Not what I'd call a race quad, but more power than he's used to, not so much he'll be overpowered. And that can be increased with a few mods too.

Adding this would be a used and not a new quad.

Default I agree with the 300EX

1st... he'll need to learn to work the clutch! I'd head over to the local Honda shop and see what fits him. I am 120lbs on a Honda 300EX. That's an easy comfortable ride for me. We have a 400 and 450 as well. I can tell you from experience that an electric start is nice for us lighter folk... I can't even move the kick-start on our one quad when I jump on it!
