Default new to ATV's

I finally decided after many years of absence from off roading to try out something new.My son bought a 2016 570 Polaris last winter and after looking for a few months I decided to go with a used bike for my first ride.I really wanted a Yamaha as all 5 of my street bikes are Yamaha but couldnt find anything used that wasnt trashed so my second choice was Polaris.Tommorrow I pick up an 05 Sportsman 500 HO.1200 miles brand new front and rear bumpers, hand guards, grip and thumb warmers, winch, aftermarket aluminum wheels camo paint scheme.Cant wait to try her out on some trails!!

Sportsman 500 is a solid machine. Tons of aftermarket accessories available if you really want to customize it though it sounds like its already got a lot of aftermarket goodies on it.

Thanks for the welcome all! Out for a motorcycle ride today on my xv1700 warrior, wife on her vstar 1300.Cruisin through Shamokin pa. area and we decide to pull into the Anthracite outdoor adventure area to grab some literature when lo and behold a sign grabs my attention.....Yamaha demo today.I got to drive the YXZ1000SS and the manual version as well .It wasnt just a blast around the parking lot it was out onto the trails for about 30 minutes of serious go ahead and whip these bad boys fun.Gonna make it kinda hard to settle for a little atv!

That YXZ1000SS looks sweet except for the 20K+price tag. I have a Yamaha dealer nearby as well. The last demo day they had was earlier this year and the SS hadn't come out yet. I think I had to work that Saturday anyway. I still would have given the Wolverine and Grizzly and Kodiak models a free test ride though. They're pretty lenient about letting people test ride stuff though so I could probably go there and give an SS a test ride, though it would only be in the parking lot so I doubt I could even get it out of 2nd gear before I would have to slow down. From the videos I've seen, it will go 40 mph in 2nd gear. 3rd will get you up to 50 mph.
