Default Hello from Virginia!!

Hello! So, I am fifty years old and looking to purchase my first ATV. Doing a little research online, and ran across this page. Seems like a lot of knowledge and information available here. Hope you guys won't mind me asking some questions to help me make an informed purchase. Of course then it will be maintenance and upgrade questions. So, thanks in advance!!

Welcome from another older gent, yes we like to talk about our toys but do try posting your questions in the proper area for faster responses. If you look we have different mfgrs as well as general questions about atv and utv's.

Hello jl1966: I joined these Forums for the same reasons you are joining. I was contemplating a new ATV and didn't know a rat about them. Members here put up with my newbe questions and were very helpful to me.

First I determined what I wanted to do with this ATV. I wanted to trail ride here in Colorado, and I want to plow snow in my driveway. I figured I would end up with a Polaris Sportsman since I'm from Minnesota. I visited the different manufacturer's sites to get specifications and pricing on the various models.

My main concern was reliability. I could not find any objective evidence of the reliability of the different makes. After considerable reading, I gathered the Japanese makes are likely the most reliable such as Honda and Yamaha. But they didn't have the features I wanted. I wanted a 2 up machine for the occasional passenger, and for the extra stability the longer wheelbase provides. That left me with Arctic Cat, Can AM, and Polaris.

You are wise to study the various choices for a new ATV. And research these Forums to learn more about them.

David
