Hi from long island. I found this forum because I recently acquired a 1985 Suzuki lt230s. My first 4 wheeler but I have a few Honda trikes. What brought me here is my problem with the carb for the 230s. It looks like I will need to replace it mainly because I can not get it apart to rebuild it. The guy I bought it from lived on the water and the salt in the air has seized it. now here is my problem what do I replace it with. I can not find a vm26ss carb anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Some vice grips on those soft brass float screws should get them off. Then tap the bowl with a rubber mallet. Not sure what other carbs may mount up, but I would be surprised if there isn't a close replacement from mikuni.

I wish I could get to that point the guy had it in his garage for the last 15 years living on the ocean. The salt in the air has really frozen it. I can't even get the cap off to pull the plunger out. all the set screws, choke, winter/summer thing and scews that hold it together frozen. I have tried every oil/ nut buster/anti freeze stuff I can find and nothing.

Yes I have seen those but the specs are off from the stock carb as per the clymers book. So i'm a little skeptical to spend that kind of money and I don't know if it will work. I also read that the vm26 is not the same as the vm26ss. So I am trying to clarify that as well and thank you for the help.

As long as the od of the input and output of the carb fit the intake boots, it should be good to go. Generally you can get away with a small range of sizes like a vm28 may work although it could suffer a little power loss at lower rpm vs more potential on top. Vice versa on a vm24. If the machine has stock intake and exhaust starting with stock jet sizes should get you pretty close if using another 26mm carb. I don't remember the old quads port carb being anything crazy, choke on the carb, pretty standard throttle cable, round slide. If it really concerns you, why not drop a line to mikuni and see what they recommend as a replacement if the SS is out of production?

Thanks. The vm26-606 seems to be closest to the original with the jetting and design being a little different. If it was a 20-30 dollar carb I would just buy it but it being 70-100+ dollars I don't want to trial and error at those prices. Now regarding mikuni I don't know which one to contact I did a search and three websites saying that they are the company came up. I may have to call all three
