I had my machine jacked up in the shop and was giving it a thorough once over with complete oil and gear lube change. While spinning the wheels, I found that the left front spun freely and the right front acted like it had bad bearings or a bad axle joint. It would turn about 1/8 turn and bind, and the same thing over and over. I pulled the hub and found that the bearings were good, and spun the axle and found that the binding was in the differential. I couldn't feel it in the steering when bringing the machine into the shop. I went to the local dealer, and the parts counter guy said this was normal. The oil that came out of the front differential was clean and looked like new.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the limited slip front end. It may cause one side to "bind" while the other spins freely. Just a thought. Another thought is to ride it a bit and see if the right front hub is hotter than the other side. If it is binding it will heat up a good bit. I'm not much of a mechanic so these are random thoughts. Try the Yamaha section to see if anyone else has had this kind of issue.
