What he is talking about (Low end of belt deflection) Is how tight your belt is... the black spring helps keep it tight. The tighter your belt the more power and the longer your belt will last. Low end of deflection is 22 mm. But anywhere between 22-27mm is ok. GET THE BLACK SPRING ASAP!!!!! It's a cheap mod that is well worth it!!

As for filters go get the twin air filter... i don't think a k&n is really what you need... twin air will give you better dust protection.

Thanks again everyone!

I was talking to the Dealer today. ..... Getting it worked on Thursday...... said the valves need to be adjusted and the carb remixed!

Here is my question ..... Difference between the ‘02 and the ‘03 650s

New Airbox and filter - should I upgrade to this or leave well enough alone with a TwinAir filter?

K-EBC - is reprogrammed on the ‘03 – can this be done to my ‘02?

And . . . . not related to the above ….. is there any dataport plugs on the 650 like in a car? I have a Module and software that can read the “code” and ID the problem and give me a place to start to look for the solution to the problem.

DBCooper,

Find a posting by Nyroc and use the link to connect to his site. There you will find an indepth explanation for belt adjustment as well as answers to many of your questions and some you haven't even thought to ask yet.

I would just install the twinair and not bother upgrading to the '03 airbox.

Sorry, no dataport on the 650.

DBCooper,

I looked through the manual and couldn't find anything on reprogramming the brake control. I'd check with the dealer to see if the '03 unit is a direct replacement for the one on your machine. What kind of problem are you having with the system that makes you think you'd want it reprogrammed.

Originally posted by: Scotia650- DBCooper,

If it doesn't already have it done get the choke spring upgrade. As fishhead stated earlier this was a problem on '02 models. Check your airscrews and adjust to about 2.5-3 turns out from closed. I'd go with the twinair filter in your case, it filters fine particles better than the K&N and I would think you'd get a fair amount of dust. Black secondary spring is a must for your start and stop riding and keep the deflection to the low end of the 22-27mm spectrum to get the best belt life. I wouldn't bother with a primary spring. Replace the stock tires with something in the stock sizes and in a tread pattern that will suit the conditions around your farm. Since I don't think you should go with any exhaust or intake modifications then the stock jetting should suit you fine. Also, the holeshot module will probably be too abrupt for constant start and stop use. The progressive spring upgrade is probably well suited for your conditions as the stiffer suspension could be an asset around the farm. Hope this has been some help.
DBCooper - Scotia650 has hit the nail on the head! Go with what he posted and you'll be very happy!

Not having any problems with it. I was reading the Kaw reprogrammed it to work better in the 03s and thought that it would be a benefit if i did upgrade it. You know, small farm, not a lot of money and need this beast to live almost as long as I do!

Is the choke spring upgrade something that Kaw put out as a FYI or just people that tinker came up with?

Book, I love books..... I have the Tech man on the 02. What other book/manual do you gents recommend for me to learn haw to do my own maintenance?

Has anyone here used any of the Agi attachments on their 650s like the Category 0 3-point hitch and attachments from Cycle Country? I am looking for an opinion on their farm attachments like the Box Blade, Plow, Disc Harrow, York rake, and one row planter??? Or the Bio-Logic stuff!

Scotia650, NovaKaw650, guys thanks for sticking with me on this. You have all been a help to me! Again thanks for your times!

DBCooper,

Kawaski replaced my choke springs and cables as a unit. This was their response to my problem. We replaced just the springs on a friends 650 and I think this does the same job for a fraction of the cost. If it's under warrenty get the whole deal, if not then just replace the springs and save a few $.

I rely on the service manual and the great input from this forum. One cannot overestimate the value of the combined knowledge that is offered on this site. Thanks to all who post here!

Sorry, I can't offer much for input on the other attachments.

Steve
