p650 chirps (yelps)
#1
New to the forum so cut me some slack for future blunders in technical and grammatical areas.
I have about 50 hours on my p650 and I have noticed some chirping noises when I start to accelerate from a dead stop. This only happens when I ease into the throttle. When I hammer it...business as usual. I have had it in a bind a time or two (pulling logs and a porch off of a burned out house). Have I smoked the belt already?
No complaints about the wheeler other than the chirping. It is everything that I expected. The guys that I ride with are Kawasaki green with envy.

I just solved this very problem on mine, you didnt smoke the belt it is just loose, pulling the logs and porch probably gave it a little stretch but it is no big deal. Just adjust the belt and I would recomend putting in a black spring, this will help lower belt wear and keep it a bit tighter. You can adjust the belt yourself following the instuctions on nyrocs site. I didnt have the time so just dropped it off at the dealer and told him to put in the black spring while he had it apart to adjust the belt didnt cost any extra for the labor just the part from EPI part # kss3 $24.95. The dealer charged $30 labor. Hope this helps.

Too tight....too loose... LOL I couldn't remember for sure which it was but apparently it was too loose listening to the other posts. Either way when I said it needed adjustment I was right.

Thanks to all. I'll give it a shot. Black spring eh? More torque and less belt wear for under $25....TOUGH DECISION!!! Does a quasi-novice have a shot at R&Ring the spring?
PC Doc,
Comparetively speaking.....p650 or Grizz 660? I have heard pros and cons for both but never knew anyone that had both.

Are you asking me which one I like the most? Well there is a reason the Grizzly is for sale...
About the rear, black spring... Like I have stated before, with a buddy it is a piece of cake for us to change. We didn't have a compression tool to get the spring clip out so we used one of my 45 lb bench press plates to set on the clutch to press the spring down. One guy to hold down on the plate to compress the spring and one to undo the clip. Same deal to put the new spring in.

Guess I could elaborate a bit more as to why I like the Prairie more...
Pros
Prairie
- power
- enclosed rear brake system
- reverse override
- lower center of gravity
Grizzly
- looks (meaner)
- rides smoother
- awesome cushy seat
- I liked the shifter more on the Grizz too
The pros for the Prairie outweighed the ones for the Grizzly that is why I choose P650. The Grizzly is a great machine but the Prairie is a better fit for me and the riding I do.

I just picked mine up at 5 o'clock from the dealer. I had taken mine in two weeks ago for the same yelp type noise and they told me it was in tolerance but it still did it. I pressed the issue and made some calls Monday morning to other dealers and Kawasaki and by this morning I had my prarie at my dealer for a new belt and black spring all free of charge exept the price of the spring.
I dealt directly with the owner and everything was taken care of and he really liked the black spring after it was in .I think he will start recomending it to other people because he asked for the web adress and price, and said he was goeing to check it out.
Oh by the way I had 19 hours on mine with no real hard riding. And it slipped since the second week I had it(very minor). But I did'nt know what was normal until I started reading this forum a few weeks ago.The knowledge on this site is priceless!
