650 running poorly
#1
I need some help from some one that knows some thing, my dealer is a retard. 6 weeks ago I had an electrical short that cooked my cdi, I was going to wait for an aftermarket one but now that there is a module I ordered it as well as a new oem cdi. My problem is that my bike runs like crap. I am being beaten by a stock 650 with 28"zillas. I don't have my module yet but i do have black/red springs, DG snorkle, drilled mufler and jetted up 1 size with .030" shime under the needles. I have the stock tires on it now and am at about 1000ft above sea level. The original short was repaired and there was no other damage from it. The bike is alittle hard to cold start (pops in air box) I need help my dealer says that it is in my head. I say BS i have owned the bike since new and should know when it is sick.

Have you done a plug read yet? This will tell a pretty good story most of the time. Could be lean like aj650 said, the ignition could be sending a little more or less spark than the other. Make sure you correct this problem and have a good plug reading before you install the module though, otherwise you wont notice it as much anymore and never get the full potential out of your bike. The feel wont be the same and you wont remember what its supposed to run like without it. And sorry to hear about your dealer. I think I deal with his twin brother

Up Date: I had some time today to look at some things, when i installed the dg snorkel i put the front jet in the rear and installed a new 1 jet larger in the front. Now i do a plug check ant the front is quite rich and the rear is slightly lean. This is the only problem i can find, I'm getting desperate as my module should be here very soon(thurs or fri) and i don't want to install it with existing problems.

Disme, you have your jets all screwed up. You should have put your rear jet in the front and put the new jet in the rear. You should have a larger jet in the rear than in the front as your rear cylinder runs hotter and the larger jet feeds the rear cylinder more fuel to compensate. At your elevation, try running 145/148. I'm at 1500 feet and run 145/148 and it runs sweet. I have a Unifilter airfilter, modded muffler, airbox mods(three 1 1/4 inch holes), and a homemade snorkle.

Ok pulled the jets tonight and they were correct 145 rear and 142 front. now what? The carbs are clean the floats are correct I'm lost.
Could someone please help or give me the name of a dealer that isn't a living brain doner and is capable of giving good advice.

Ok I got mad this weekend and tore into it again. Cleaned and adjusted the carbs (not needed), checked the valve adjustment (good), checked and cleaned clutches (small amounts of dust) checked whireing and speed sensor (seem good). Then went out and compared to my friends 650 (bone stock with 28" zillas) he still kicks my but bad. Then installed my holeshot box (best mod for the money) and compaired bikes again, off the line I get 1/2 - 1 bike lengths on him then he goes by and keeps going. I'm lost where else do I look, I have to be missing something (besides a good dealer).
