Default Bayou 185 Problems..

Please someone give me an Idea where to start on this issue..

for being a 16 year old 4 wheeler it still will start up on the first crank.. and does not smoke at ALL.. Runs great when it is running.. here is my problem

After running the ATV for about 10 min.. when the eng is reved high at a constant rate.. IE full boar the the ATV will sputter and the eng will DIE. I have tracked the problem down to either fule or Air.. Because if I let it set for 1 min.. and it will start right back up again.. It acts like it is starving for fuel.. could this be the problem.. I have cleaned all the Air intakes and hoses for the air.. but yet it still does it.. I belive it is the fuel system but I am not for sure.. Can anybody give me any sugestions to try.. Thank you..

Default Bayou 185 Problems..

I will take a stab. My father in laws 95 Honda fourtrax was doing the exact same thing. I know its a honda, but principle is the same. I removed the carb and cleaned it out really good. That did wonders for it, lots of junk came out of it. I didnt replace anything, just cleaned it up really good. Im guessing it will need an actual rebuild by the end of this summer. It was fouling plugs pretty quickly too. Do you have that problem?
Could also be the fuel supply, draining the bowls at full throttle, then filling them back up after it dies??? Not a mechanic, just some sudgestions. Good luck.

I took the Carb apart and cleaned it.. didnt make a diff.. I thought the plug was fouling too.. but I check it and it was good.. so I guess my next check will be the fuel filter..

This might sound dumb, but what shape is your battery in? on my prarie, when the battery died due to a bad charging circuit, it would idle fine, and up to half throttle, then would sputter and spit and die if I didnt let off. Im just stabbing in the dark. Wish you luck.

the batery is Dead as a door nail! that is my next step in trouble shooting.. I was kinda wondering that myself if all the power is going to trying to charge the batery and the spark plug is getting neglected so to say.. I didnt know if that was possible tho.. I guess I will go buy a new battery and see if that works.. I thought maybe the old batt would take a charge.. I let the ATV idle for over 2 hours.. and the batt didnt even give a spark.. I am still leary that a battery could cause this problem.. But I will try that. Thanks..

Maybe we are on to something, worth a shot since you probably need a new battery anyways. Let me know if that does anything, im curious. :-)

Welp it looks like we was on to something.. the battery was the cause of all the problems.. it was trying to pull ALL the amps to the battery so it could charge.. but it wasnt charging.. I now have a new battery and well it runs perrrrrrfect )

Glad you got your wheels back. If the dealer would hurry up and fix mine, I could have one too. I'm having withdrawals.
