Pro Design kill switch hook up
#2
Just hook the lead wire from your pro-design switch to the grey wire coming from the key switch and ground the other wire to the chassis somewhere. Do not unhook the grey wire, just splice into it. This tricks the CDI into thinking the run/off switch on the handle bars is turned off when the tether cord is pulled. Everything works as normal.

vtwin650,
Hey that sounds to easy to be true. Have you got one hooked up on your machine and how long has it been hooked up? I had talked to a bunch of different people, they all had the switch on their machines but were not hooked up. The Prairie has its own saftey switch, if it rolls over it kills the engine. They told me also that a relay of some kind will work, or a kill switch that does the opposite of what a normal one does, open or closed I forget? Electric is my least favorite thing to deal with!
But hey if this works that is great! That is how they are getting those modulars (holeshot & top end) to work so maybe it is possible, just got to fool that CDI!!
Please let me know, Thanks

Has anyone installed one on a 650 Prairie ????? I installed one as per the instructions last weekend, when I pull the kill switch, It kills the quad, but frys the main fuse...I assume that this is shorting out the ignition...Will it damage my CDI ????? if it won't damage my CDI, I could install a resetable breaker mounted on the handlebars, so I don't have to remove the seat...I don't plan on falling off the quad anyway...LOL...but as they test them at some races, I'd hate to leave it that way, if its hard on the CDI ????? what do you think ????? Have A GREAT Day, Go Four Wheel'in !!!!! WAM

newbeatle, hook it up exactly like vtwin650 says, grounding the grey wire will work and will not blow any fuses.

I'll have to look at the wires when I get home... The wires for the on / off switch on the handle bars were both yellow, 1 with a red stripe, & 1 with a green stripe... the one with the red stripe follows the wire loom down the handle bar stem to the first connector, the one with the green stripe disappears in the multifunction switch somewhere... I didn't fully disassemble the switch to see where it went, reverse over ride, head lights etc... just assumed that it was probably ground & went to another switch... thanks for the info, I'll look to see if I have a grey wire... just doesn't seem like the one to patch into ( since it doesn't run to the on / off switch... unless, you're opening the circuit on the ground side instead of the hot side ????? anyone else done this before ?????

Yes it does sound too easy to be true but it is true! I have one on mine and it works like a charm everytime. This trick also works on the 650 prairie too. Just thought you all would like to know. I can't take credit for this little trick though,I got it from GE4X4,he is the man!
