p650 hauling question
My 650 is somewhere around 6 inches too long to shut the tail gate on my Toyota Tacoma. The only thing the tailgate hits is the tires. The body of the ATV and rack is up higher. I have a 6 foot bed. If your friend has a 6.5 foot bed as most short bed full size trucks do, then he might be able to squeeze it in there.

You don't want to squeeze any 4x4 quad into a short box, if you do it will be a tight fit. With the tight fit you run the risk of busting the rear window out because there is only like 1 inch at most between the rack and the window, one bad bump or heavy breaking and your going to be pissed.
I have a short box and I run with the tail gate open, I tie the quad down and away I go. I have never had a problem with my tail gate down on gravel or pavement.

If you want to put it in a full size pick up truck, why not install a headache rack and then close your tailgate. This way if you slam on your brakes you won't end up with a lump on the back of your head. Also for added security, I might change the tailgate handle to a locking one. My 2 cents.

I would recommend the trailor route with the chev short box or leave your tailgate down. I use a full size chev and I have lots of room with the tailgate up for a big box upfront too. The thing is my quad probably has the same amount of space compared to a smaller box but the nice thing about mine is there's a lot of space between window and quad and the wheel wells are not a problem.

On my Short box, I have a minature headache rack, sits about 4 inches high on the front of the pickup box & I always tie-down the P650 at all 4 corners, just in case I ever do need to get on the brakes.
I had before a AC500 & even with it tied down, it still manage to jump up onto the front of the bed & I almost lost my rear window, before I had the minature headache bar installed. Since the bar hasbeen installed & as long as any 4wheeler is tied down, I have not had any more problems.
