Recoil>>> P.I.A.
#1
Today I decided to give my recoil a pull to show a friend how good it worked since I "fixed" it. The cord fell to the ground when I let go, It was hung up again, It was not dirty at all inside since I just took it apart last weekend and cleaned it up. With a 1/4 turn on the nut it flew back in, worked good when loose but not at all when tight. No big deal I decided I was going to put a washer in like someone on this forum suggested anyway. Then the PIA started, took the nut off and dropped the recoil on the ground the spring jumps out along with everything else. Thats when my "friend" goes home. After jack@ssing with that spring for about 45 min my wife is starting to hear some foul language coming from the garage, with her help it only took a few minutes.
Lesson learned=== When you take apart the recoil DONT let the spring loose if you dont have to.
next==If it does get loose have someone help put it back it is much easier with 4 hands.
last=== never call a person who leaves you as soon as you have a problem a FRIEND
By the way, the washer did work, the nut is tight and it spins very easy. Thanks whoever had that idea. Im sorry I dont remember who it was.

lol. I brought this up elsewhere back in April.
Let me know if yours makes any noise at higher speed after doing that. Mine did from the pawl sneaking out and ticking the spinning part on the crank. Maybe my washer is too thick or I just need some grease on the pawl to hold it in place.

Well today I decided to try out my recoil to see how it would perform. Pull the cord out and guess what? It wouldn't go back in. Tried playing around with it and it didn't want to go back in. So I took the recoil assembly off and I was able to recoil the cord manually. I then removed the little bolt holding the circular metal plate against the plastic recoil assembly. I added a small washer betweeen the plastic part and the metal plate. Put everything back together and it seems to work great. I pulled the recoil multiple times and it went right back in like it should. I didn't go for a drive, but I didn't hear any noises. I'm assuming that this is where everybody installed the washer on there bikes?

When you installed the washer, was the nut sticking out just a little bit or where you able to tighten it all the way. Mine is sticking out just a bit. I can see a bit of thread inside the nut. Just want to make sure that this is OK.

Kawidan, I did place the washer between the metal plate and the plastic wheel, as for how tight it got, I just tightened it until it stopped. It was dark by the time I got the recoil spring back in so I couldnt tell you about the threads, sorry. I can say there was a couple milimeters between the metal plate and the plastic though. I could see that much.
