Default 650 exaust temp

my 650 is running warm so I shot it with a temp gun, noticed the front exaust pipe
ran around 250degrees and the back pipe ran 350+ degrees. I pulled the plugs ,
they were not running lean. Any thought about what to check for would be greatfull

the rear cylinder runs hotter on v-twins so that could be why the exhuast is hotter

The pipe temp has nothing to due with the price of rice. The pipe's temp could rise to over 600 degrees if heat could not escape fast enough. Some people see theirs glow.

Heat escapes due to convection (dominant on not so hot things) and radiation (dominant on hot things).

Your rear pipe is obscured by more stuff (they reflect heat back at it), has less air flow, and has heat from the front cyl on it too.

The exhaust gas temp in the exhaust ports is supposed to be around 1250F.

Exhaust temps are only critical on a diesel engine. When is kawasaki going to make a diesel prairie...........hehe had to ask... BTW check out the new mule that thing is awesome.

Best way to check your quad for lean or rich is to forget the plug idea unless you can take a new set and do a run on them wide open and shut down while still wide open to not cotaminate the plug, other than that find someone in your area that checks cars for emmissions or that has an air fuel ration sniffer to check the setup out...Best and most accurate way to do it.
