'02 vs '03 CDI for 650
From reading another thread ongoing right now, it seems that the CDI is different from the '02 to the '03.(different part #) I'm wondering if anyone knows what the difference is. I understand they changed the KEBC controls for '03, could that be it, or is there a power difference fron 02 to 03? Just curious, it may be a good upgrade for my 02 if there is.

589650,
Not possible to change 03 cdi to 02 as the 03 has one more plug installed to it so it has 3 plugs going to it where the 02 has 2 plug ins on it. It has been mentioned the controller will interchange between the 2 and does help with performance. It is said the 03 will out perform the 02 and the controller is the decideing factor.

Alltoys, just checked parts diagram, it is different #'s for the ignition controller. Can you tell me what difference it might make to put the 03 model onto my 02? Also, what is the extra plug on the 03 cdi for? If it would be worth it, would it be possible to change the 02 wiring to suit? Or a big waste of time and money? Thanks in advance.

Its a big waste of time and money to change the cdi and wiring unless you want to and what will you gain not much. The 03 belt light comes on every 100 hours of use that is a pain all by itself. As for the controller I remember a member saying that he installed the 03 controller on his 02 and it went faster more like an 03 but I don't remember anyone else trying this. I think it would be easier to install a modulator and get more performance.
