Default Fuel injection for the V-Force

After reading a post by Alltoys and Shotgun last night regarding the Haltech programmble ignition, I decided to see there were any on ebay. I emailed this guy about it and got a pretty lengthy response regarding converting the V to programmable fuel injection. He got pretty off the subject of just programming the ignition(and on more to fuel injection), but it is interesting though. I though some of you might be interested:

Hi There,
Ok putting a system onto a KFX-700 V-Force is an interesting idea. I have
had a good look at all of the specs that I can find and there should be no
problem with fitting a fuel injection system to one.

The easiest conversion would be to install a Haltech F10 Fuel only
controller. This will allow you to control the Fuel side of things with the
Haltech and leave the ignition to the factory CDI setup.
With this system you could remove the current twin carbs and replace with
suitable throttle bodies with injector mounts. The standard carbs are 32mm
units from what I have found so you should be looking for twin throttle
bodies of a similar size if not just a little bigger. We have throttle
bodies but nothing off the shelf in that size (40mm smallest size we have).
A nice unit I have seen used to do setups like this in the past that is a
reasonably easy thing to adapt in most cases is the throttle bodies on the
late model BMW bikes. These are easily attached, have provision to mount a
normal Bosch style injector, and are about the right size for you.. Just a
thought. You may already have that side of things under control.

One other consideration you should keep in mind is that these engines do not
run the same size jetting in the carbs from front to rear standard .. The
rear cylinder actually runs 4% richer that the front cylinder. You cant
really trim this out with the ECU when only running a fuel only unit like
the F10. You can however sort this out with careful selection of injectors.
If you were to run the E6K or E11 system you can trim this with the ECU, it
is however much more work than just a fuel only setup.

These engines make around 50hp in stock trim ... To make this hp using 2
injectors you will only need around 12lb/hr (120cc/min) of fuel per
cylinder. This means you should be able to use injectors from just about any
factory 4 cyl injected car and they will be big enough for what you need. An
efi pump from a small injected 4 cylinder would also be the go and
regulators are readily available. I have a friend that converted a Kawasaki
bike to fuel injection and he ended up using a modified Mazda Miata in tank
pump inside his original tank.

In theory you can install a system that will control fuel and ignition (E6K
or E11) but unfortunately at present I haven't been able to find a wiring
diagram for the KFX700 so I can tell you at present exactly what needs to be
changed to make that happen. Do you have a wiring diagram for this ATV? ..
That is all I should need to work it out for you.

I hope that helps answer your questions, if there is anything more we can do
to help please let us know

Kind Regards,

Default Fuel injection for the V-Force

In reference to the fuel pump..

I was looking at the service manual on the VForce. The VForce has an electric fuel pump in the fuel tank. I didn't lookup the psi output of the pump but since it's a carb system. I doubt that it's psi is high enough to run with fuel injection. I suspect that you would need around 15-20 psi minimum. I have a brand new 70 psi Holly unit that is fairly small and runs off 12 volts. I'll dig a little deeper to see what's in the VForce tank. Don't have the manual with me at the moment.

I'm thinking about something..

I'm also working on a custom chopper running a 100 ci Revtech. There are all kinds of aftermarket CDI and Fuel Injection systems for big twin engines used on Harley's and customs. Has anyone considered this route to get a fuel management system that is already compact and ready to install? I would think with a little reprogramming for the 700cc, this would be a viable way to go.

Just my 2 cents..
