Is there any performance gain going from 93 octane pump gas to the race quality 105-112(?) stuff?

I can tell the diffence in 93 octane and race gas....i run nothing but race gas in mine, it will prob. burn the piston up but i hope it does it within the first 6 months.

The compression ratio of the V is 9.9:1. Compression the YFZ 450 is 12:1 and it uses pump gas. What I'm trying to say is that race gas will do nothing for you unless you have a high compression engine. Race gas does not produce more power, it is simply harder to burn. It prevents premature ignition in high compression engines (like 13.5:1). It will not hurt your engine, but there is absolutely no reason to use it unless you increase the compression ratio of your engine. Of course it's your money so feel free to buy all the race gas you want.

I agree with Green700 100%. We get into this every winter with the sleds. You need a higher compression engine to make up for the higher elevations with thinner air. That is when the hi octane come into effect. Some of the guys run a "dial a dome" which allows you to change the heads on your unit to add or take away "squwish" or compression. Running a 10:1 with high octane is a waste of money.

This is all good info that can save all of us some money. What octane ideally should then be run in the V? I have not checked the manuel yet to see what they recommend, but I will.
