Default Vforce rear shock..

Has anyone else changed their rear shock with something other than elkas? And if so what did you pay and where? The back shock just bottoms out on jumps and I really can't afford to drop 700 bucks for one shock it's just way to much to pay damn I could get my
cobra lowered for less than that.

What kind of jumps are you hitting to bottom out the rear shock? I sometimes bottom it out but only when I don't land properly or do something dumb.

Default Vforce rear shock..

I too bottom out after landing 5-6 ft plus of air. Increasing the compression adjustment helps but I have been unable to increase the spring preload. Have tried jacking it up and using a long screw driver to loosen retainers but they will not budge. And I do not feel like taking the thing apart just to adjust it. Why are the retainers not on the bottom?

bbertram Maybe I'm not landing right? I try to land back wheels slightly ahead of the front but the higher I go it doesn't seem to matter.

mjohnson97045 Same here stupid to put them up on top.

Hey guys get a shock spaner wrench that you can use with a 3/8 rachet and extension, then you can adjust your preload. I adjusted mine to zero preload and it helped tremendously in the whoops. Not much you can do if bottoming out, except upgrade!! You might try a Works shock, not as much $$ as Elka and still a great product. Good luck.

Default Vforce rear shock..

I am actually using a rear Fox shock built by HPD for my quad. I bought this custom suspension for my Scrambler and absolutely loved the rear shock. It is a ZPS type shock with an external Fox blue anodized resevoir. It also has a dual rate spring. So, basically, I did some measuring and had a machine shop make me some new mounting spacers. It actually had too much upward rear travel, so I built a travel limiter so as to not stress out the CV joint. The weight of the two bikes was pretty similar, so I never even got it revalved. The shock is absolutely awesome and it's a good conversation piece. Be creative and don't feel like you've got to drop $800 for a new rear shock.
