Default Help!!!! What should I do???? Dealer problem

In addition to the extra hours on the meter, I believe this would put you another 12 hours closer to the belt reset situation. I seem to recall reading this in the owners manual (about leaving the key on).

I think this feature is only on the 2003. I think after 100 hours, the belt reset light kicks in. My bike is a 2002.

WHo knows how long the key has been on....days? Price a battery.....they are 60-70 bucks. Imagine whats going on that you don't know about. Take a look at your mechanic in the morn (not the guy you pick it up from)...I bet he is under 20YO, does'nt make squat, and hates working at the stealership.....which transferrs into his work.... He is the punk that thinks he is gonna race pro real soon and this is temporary at the dealership......or so thats is his plan.

Default Help!!!! What should I do???? Dealer problem

Man I think nyroc is right... any dealer makes me nervous. I always buy a service manual for anything I have, be it car,truck,quad...Whatever they do I am sure I can do. I agree also that many of the mechanics look so dam* young and "sloth"-like. Anything is possible; I wish you luck with the cash-bandits

Yeah, a bit neourtic and obsessive. Your best bet in the future is work on your own quad because you sound like you are very difficult to please. A lot of companies will purposely treat you badly so you will go away. They simply don't want to deal with certain types of customers.

I'd agree with you if you saw your quad being ridden around and thrashed on but not for the key situation. I used to work at a dealership and there isn't a whole lot of money to be made by the regular employees. The owner is the one who does okay.

Default Help!!!! What should I do???? Dealer problem

rockrider,

I'm actually quite easy to please. If this wasn't the case, beleive me I would have never brought my bike to this dealer to get the warranty work done. I've heard so many bad stories about this dealer, but I figured I'd give them another chance since they are a local dealer and I'd like to be able to support them. I had only brought my bike to this dealership on one previous occassion, and I had no complaints about the service on that visit. My only complaint was that they seem to overcharged. No big deal!!!! So I figured that since this was warranty work and didn't have to pay there fees, I should have no problem with them since the service seemed pretty good the last time I was there.

When I dropped off the bike Monday morning, I told them that I would be picking up the bike after work that day since they didn't have the part in stock, and that there was no use leaving my bike in the shop while waiting for the part to arrive. When I got there Monday after work, the service manager explained that the part would be in on Wednesday and that the bike would be repaired that same day. So I decided to leave the bike at the dealership until Wednesday since I figured there was no use taking the bike home, and bringing it back to the dealership on Wednesday morning to get the part installed. So Wednesday after work, I still hadn't heard from the dealership about the status of my bike, so I figured I'd go see if my bike was still on the hoist in the service area since I was planning on going to get the bike on Thursday morning. If the bike had moved off the hoist, there was a chance that the bike was repaired and they had forgotten to call me because they where too busy. This is when I seen that the bike was in the shop with the key on.

Today I called the dealership to see on the status of my bike since I hadn't talked to them since Monday after work. They informed me that my clutch plate was backordered, and wouldn't be here until Monday. They told me that if I wanted my bike for the weekend I could come and pick it up. So I went to the dealership to pickup the bike.

So when I got there, I checked my bike and there was 19 hours more on the bike then when I dropped it off. So I went into the dealership and calmly explained to the service guy that I had dropped in on Wednesday after work to see if my bike had been repaired since I hadn't heard from them that day. I then explained to him that while looking for my bike, I had noticed that the key had been left on. He then proceeded to tell me that when the mechanic stored the bike on Wednesday, he shut the bike off with the kill switch and forgot to turn the key off. He then told me that he figured that the bike had been left on for about 20 hours, and that when they noticed it, the bike started right away. He told me that he was sorry for what happened, and that he wish he could remove those extra 20 hours from my bike.

So I told him that there wasn't much that we could do about it. He then told me that my plate should be in on Monday and that he would give me a call once the part came in. I then loaded my bike up, and I was on my way.

Last Wednesday when I seen the lights blinking on my bike I felt pretty helpless and pissed off. I kept thinking to myself that they where going to kill my battery and just recharge it, and that down the road this would cause problems with my bike. I kept thinking to myself that this couldn't be good for a battery, and this was the reason why I was comtemplating asking for a new battery.

Once I was assured by members of this site that this should not have any negative effects on my battery, it made me feel a lot better about the situation. I then realized that it wasn't a big deal.

So now I have my bike back for the weekend, it still makes a noise from the clutch plate, and it has 20 more hours on the speedo. What can you do about it? LOL!!! Go out ridding and have some fun and forget about it.

Dan

The hour meter thing would **** me off too. I guess I misunderstood the tone of your posts. I originally thought you were overreacting to an minor mistake that could have easily been an accident. This dealer doesn't sound to great but that is the problem with dealerships, none, absolutely none are without fault. I got a bad story about every single dealer here in South Central AK. Like you said, what can you do? I always take a bit of satisfaction in that I'm always happy to walk into a motorcycle/ATV/snowmachine dealer when the opposite is true about car dealerships. Nobody I know goes into one of those just for fun.

Default Help!!!! What should I do???? Dealer problem

I'm sooo lucky that I live a good distance from my atv dealership. If I lived closer and had my quad in the shop, I'd be over peaking in windows every night. I hate to be separated from my quad and these dealerships make me a nervous wreck. I've had some bad experiences in the past. --I don't like when they say it will be done by a certain day and then that day comes and they didn't even look at it. (Riding days lost.)
You figure that the dealership charges about $50. an hour and the person that does the work gets about $7.00 an hour. Pay these people more so they'll be happy and do a good job. I want to find somebody from a garage that I can pay about $20. an hour and he/she will make more and I'll save more. Some of the garage mechanics are young. I was at a local atv garage the other day to get some tear-offs for my Pro-grips. I was thinking about having them do something with my quad until I saw the mechanic was about 10 years old.
I'd be bummed about the extra hours on the quad just because nothing was accomplished in the time the quad sat there. Now you have to take it back there sometime. You know you could just make arrangements to go somewhere else now that you have the quad back in hand. Good luck.
