lakota axle bearings
Steve, I just read through the procedure in my Kota service manual. Here's the quick and dirty on instructions. Keep in mind I'm taking for granted you know some things. For instance that you actually have to lift the rear end off the ground and support it to remove the axle. I will try to capture what I would want to know if I was doing it without the instructions: It looks really straightforward. However, your not allowed to sue me if you mess it up!!!
Rear Axle removal:
Remove:
wheels and hubs, drive chain (just remove from sprocket), rear caliper (just remove it from the disk), Chain and disk guard (guard on underside), Rear axle lock nuts (2 on right side of axle), brake disk and disk holder.
Push the rear axle out toward the vehicles left side.
Rear Axle bearing housing removal
Remove rear axle, loosend the drive chain adjuster clamp bolts and nuts, remove the left hand circlip on the housing using circlip pliers
Tap the bearing housing and caliper bracket out of the swingarm
Rear axle bearing removal
Pry the spacer pipe toward one side
Drive the bearing out by tapping on the exposed portion of the spacer pipe end with a hammer and metal rod. The grease seal may be tapped out with the bearing.
Insert the spacer pipe into the hub assembly
drive out the remaining bearing wnd grease seal by tapping on teh spacer pipe with a suitable driver
Deburr the spacer pipe as needed.
Rear Axle bearing installation
Drive either bearing into the hub with the bearing driver set until it bottoms out. The marked side of the bearing faces outboard.
install in the reverse order. The axle locknuts should be torqued to 145 N-m (15.0 kg-m, 110 ft-lb)
(the manual lists a special tool for the bearing driver, I'm not sure if you really need to go out and buy it or if you can make due with something else. The Bearing driver set is PN 57001-1129
That's it, at least as far as what the book says anyway. I hope this helps, pm me if you get stuck and I'll see if the pictures are any help.
