Stock vs. stock you will have big problems. Once mods begin it's all about money. Might as well start with the biggest foundation (700cc) if you want to compete with him. I have been beaten by a 400ex in app. 300ft. I think he said that he had spent between $1500 to $2000 on it. If you really want a manual why not get the new yfz 450 yamaha?.......just a suggestion

Thanks, I've thought about a Yfz 450 but they are quit a bit higher than a KFX400 from what I've seen

The Z is no slouch and will compete well with the V-Force but will not beat it. I have raced my friend on his Z and I have beat him all the time. I don't destroy him but in a 350 foot timed run he is about 2 seconds slower than my V-Force and I do pull him even more as the distrance grows. The V-Force has such good bottom end power, in 200 feet you would hose him and almost any other stock sport quad.

My buddy bought a YFZ and I have a 700.
He also has a raptor and just sold his DS.

That YFZ is fast, very fast. It also jumps very well. Remember its also 150 lbs lighter than the v-force.

The 700 is the muscle car of quads. Its really big and you get spent throwing it around if you ride trails.

If you want to race MX, buy a YFZ or the new Honda 450. A stock 700 cant keep up on tracks because it wears you out. trust me, I know.

If you like to Blast around and are more interested in offroad / gncc style fun, a 700 is great. Its got the fun factor that no other quad can touch. Long offroad events are made for the 700 because you can focus on the trail and not shifting. Take it from me, you need to really focus on the trail with the 700.
I've already flipped mine 4 times. Yesterday it landed upside down on my right hip and I feel really lucky.
Im in tons of pain.

The 700 is the strongest bike I've ever seen. Its hard to break

Well, I have ridden both. The 400 is very nice. It handles well, and jumps great. But, I bought a V. One of my buddies has a 400. We raced for the first time a week or so ago . It was aprox 1/8 mile or so. The first race, I stood my V up twiceand he put at least 2 quads on me. I was barely in front of him at our finish line. The second race, we started from a very slow roll, I beat him by 4 to 5 quads and was pullling away. Now, this was also my first time ever trying to race on concrete. The only thing I had done to my quad was the pink spring. He had vented his air box. Like I said earlier, I really like the 400. It is much smaller and lighter and is easier to throw around. but, it has no where near the tourque of the V. That, and not having to shift is really nice on long trail rides...

speedy
personally i chose the vforce and i definitly don't regret it. if i had the money i would also have a kfx 400 to park next to my 700. but if you do decide on a kfx 400. ken cornwell has one that he is selling for $4,200. has had 3 tanks of gas run through it. very nice bike. give him a call if your interested.

Yeah, thats the 400 i was looking at, he was going to paint the frame green to match the plastic but decided not too. If I could sell my Kodiak in time before someone else buys it i would, but someone will probably buy it before i get a chance to. You didn't happen to go riding with Ken Sunday did you?
