That is a currently unanswered question, and a good one. It has been discussed here and elsewhere.

I think there are a lot of people considering a new cam, but, are reluctant because they don't know or understand the cam differences. The grinds are a guarded secret it seems.

So, one has to buy a cam based on recommendation or by name; rather than a comparison.

I am not plugging anyone. But, if you were to buy a cam based on name then why not buy from the guy whom is leading the pack?

I'd rather buy on spec and concept than name myself. Too bad we don't know though....

Let me know if you find out anything useful.

Good luck.

Fullthrottle,
I beleive that Mickeys cams are made for more mid to top end as they have a longer duration, same timeing as on the V700. The longer duration equates to a stronger top end but will loose slightly on the bottom. I beleive he designed these cams with respect to his big bore kit where the kit has more bottom end so the cams will push it that more on the top end. I have cams with about the same cut as his on my 650 it has helped on the top end most definately but takes away on the bottom. One thing you can try is to advance your cam by 10* then advanceing your timeing with a key by 6* this will take away from the bottom but you will gain on the top end. Try it, it may be the answer for you.

Fullthrottle,
One tooth on the cam gear is 10* there is a line drawn on the cam gear cover line it up so the line is where it is supposed to be then turn it one tooth toward rotation of the cam. The degree key you can purchase from a sled shop they are for 2 stroke sleds and are offset just call your local sled shop they will have a variety of keys for you.

the cams are already advanced they need to be retarded 10deg
one tooth on the cam is 12deg 34teeth but you want 10 crank deg
this is 5deg on the cam

Can't playing around with "jumping" teeth on the cam sprocket change the valve-to-piston clearances? Is it OK to do this? I was told that the V-Force service manual states the cam timing specs in the front specifications section like the P650 does. Could someone post the numbers here for us to compare? I think someone said that the lift and duration was the same, but that the V cams are 10 degrees retarded vs. the P650 cams, but I am not sure. The specs should tell all.

the v-force cams run 20-44 44-20
the 650 cams are inlet open 34btdc close 34abdc
ex open 54bbdc close 10atdc
duration 244deg
the v-force cams are run "stright up" the way they should be, more valve clearance
the 650 cams are run advanced 10deg less valve clearance
advancing the cams moves the power band down killing top end

Do Not move one tooth it is too much

reds60 is correct, I looked the specs up and they are identical except that the Prairie runs the cams 10 degrees advanced from how the V-Force runs them. I wonder if this was done to boost the Prairie low end or simply to limit it on the top end? Has anyone here tried running the V-Force cams in the Prairie instead of moving them on the cam sprocket?

Both.

I have been contemplating that very thing. The V cams are $94 each. Pulling the cams, having the holes filled and retapped = $? Once I talk to a local machine shop I can make my decision. It might be nice to have a spare set of cams for welding and grinding. Hmmm.

Anyone have any spare stock V cams (in great shape) they want to sell? PM me if so.

I know someone with a tricked out P650 that raced a P700 with the V cams in his. They were pretty much even. Although, the P650 was in the hands of PBR.
