Default KFX400 carb bowl screws are tight!....real tight!

I attempted to install a new Dynojet in my carb today, but couldn't get the screws out of the carb bowl.....jeez, those babies are screwed in tight!....

I had read before to expect them to give me trouble.....but not THIS much trouble!.....

O.k....any good suggestions on getting those 4 screws out without tearing them up?.....

I tried "seating" the screwdriver with a couple of taps....I probably need a better screwdriver with those "grooves" on the tip, to grip into the head of the screw......might have to search for one.....

Someone suggested an impact driver, but I'm not sure if there's enough room to use it?.....

Honestly, I can't figure out why the factory insisted on screwing them down so tight?.....I've read other threads on other forums, and a lot of guys have had trouble with these screws.....

I had to use sidecut pliers to get mine out( I think thats what they are called). Replaced mine with allen head screws.

yeah, I figured I'd try a new "gripper head" screwdriver first....then move on to some small vice-grips.....then possibly the side-cutters if needed.......

Heck, I might even consider taking in to the dealer, and let them worry about it!.....At least then, if they screw it up, they've gotta' fix it!......

Thanks for the tips!.....(I'm gonna' try to get'em loose again today)

Mr. Spores, Please take the carb off and wrap it in a rag and place it in a vise. the impact driver is a great idea but the small vise grips are the way i did it. 1111 had a great idea with using the allen screws.the boyz at andrettis gave me xtra screws!!Hope your doing something nice for your KFX.Wear your helmet and dont litter!!!

Bob, i just did the same task last weekend and ran into the same problem. get the impact driver, you will have to loosen the clamps on the front and back side of your carb so you can move toward you and get to the screws. if you have already stripped the screws out you might want to cut a notch into the heads with a dremel cutting disk, then use the flat head bit for your impact driver. this should do it for you.
i replaced my brass screws with stainless alan head, usin anti siezing compound on all of the threads.
later sparx

Using Vice grips is an old trick (wont tear the head all up) then replace the screws with Allen Heads (as mentioned before).
Good luck!

Well.......after the impact driver and the phillips head bit....I now have one screw head completely "coned" out from the bit!.....Those screws are made of butter!....jeez!.....the impact bit simply "coned" them out after two whacks!......I'm amazed the manufacturer, knowing each quad must be jetted for different altitudes chooses to put cheap, butter head screws on the bowl, but SCREWS THEM DOWN SO TIGHT, making jet changes difficult?......Seems to me, allen head or torx head screws should be used from the start!.....

I'm mechanically inclined (USAF, Special Ops, Weapons Specialist, Specializing in .50 Cal BMG, 7.62 minigun and M16 teardown and assembly), but these 4 POS screws are kickin' my butt!......

(I briefly considered busting out my dremel, and slotting the heads.....but figure, enough is enough)

I hate to admit it, but I'm making an appointment with the dealer to have my jet installed.......

Thanks again for all the tips and suggestions........
