Default Removing Drive Bolt

I got the red spring today and the drive spring bolt seems like its going to break when im loosening it i know that it is a left hand thread and when i put an electric impact gun on it it will only make a couple of turns then it tightens up again so i tried using a long bar and it seems like its going to break off also i have hit it a few times with a hammer to break it free but didn't help so should i keep cranking on it to see if it lets go? Not sure what to do because the driven spring nut was alot easier to remove.

I don't have the answer to your question, but I'm going home in about an hour to take mine apart and put in a pink spring. I hope I can break it loose. I don't have an impact wrench.

You guys need to follow the service manuals instructions. If you dont have a service manual now is the time to get one. But for now, you can use mine free of charge. Here is how the manual says to remove the center bolt.

Hold the recoil starter pulley with the hook wrench. What this is saying, "without pictures" is to remove the pull rope housing on the left side, four 8mm bolts. Then, use your spanner wrench "shock adjusting tool" that comes in your tool set to hold the recoil starter pulley. You can then safely remove and tighten the bolt without worry of damage to anything.

If you need me to scan a picture of this straight from the manual and email it I can.

Thanks!
I am working on the kfx700. I did order a service manual CD a couple days ago. Should be here soon.

I am going to try and replace the primary spring and just a little while...

Going to a track for a "play day" tomorrow... It looks really good. What do you think?

My son has a piped and jetted z400 that I want to do well against... I do to well in the sand with him... I was a little disappointed. But I didn't have sand tire... and I was just breaking it in....

I have about 15-20 hours on it now...

Do you think it runs faster after it is broke in?

thanks, again.

Joe

I take it that this is how you got your bolt out to do your spring tests, so i will give it a go tommorow, thanks and your tests are what got me to buy the red spring.

Got the bolt out and half the theads are stripped and looks like there is a piece broken off the end of it. Should i be able to look into the crank or does it stop from where the bolt goes in? because i might have to drill and tap a new thread, F##k this sucks.

Wow, I am glad I am not in your shoes.

The pulley puller requires that you have all the old bolt removed. Try to find a keft hand easy-out (bolt extractor) to see if it will come out. Try not to hurt threads any more, and run tap down after to clean them.

Remember to not heat the crank. Also, if all else fails, you can replace the crankshaft and get you machine back up. Knowing this, I would suggest doing whatever you can to be successful with this bolt extraction, like getting lefty drill bits and things like that.

gatron777, that is how I changed the springs during the spring test. Im glad you liked the spring test. Nyroc's idea sounds good. When you say your threads are stripped is it the bolt threads?

Got the piece of bolt out and ordered a new bolt, im going to find a tap to run down the threads i hope the threads are ok but cant tell and crossing my fingers, seems to me that it was stripped from day 1 because the washers were loose before i started removing the bolt and how i got it out finally was a 3lb hammer beating on a strong bar.

Nyroc would you happen to know what size tap that would be? and KOD the bolt threads are stripped bad and can't tell if the inner threads are stripped.
