Strange noise from P-650
Hello,
Recently my 2003 Prairie 650 has developed a winding noise. This noise seems to be coming from the CVT - clutch area. It only occurs when I get on the gas or when I let off the gas and when I turn on the ignition or turn off the ignition. There always has been a slight winding noise when I do these things and I believe this was normal but this new noise is louder and and just doesn't sound like it should. Anyone have this happen before and where should I begin to look. Sorry for the vague discription. Thanks for your help.

The KEBC makes a whirring sound. It isn't very loud. It is supposed to occur at the times you described.
It is hard to tell you without hearing it in person, but if it is too loud now it could inidicate worn KEBC shoes or a worn KEBC bearing in the drive pulley. Some people have been able to remove the seal and repack the bearing without having to replace it.

i have had a similiar niose and have sent my 650 to the dealer to have to problem fixed, first time it cost me 250.00. that was a waste of money. the noise has returned, so i decided to address the problem my self. my problem is DUST the noise came back and i took an air gun and blew out the dust this has happened a couple times now but the noise goes away and it saves me a bunch of cash. now looking at a way to filter the clutch housing hope this helps good luck
