Default 2002 650 rear axle seals

Is there any difference in the left rear axle seals on a 2002 prairie 650 and a 2004 700? They only list a part number for the whole left assembly on the 650 ( which is $215 cdn) while they list part numbers for all the seals on the 2004 700. I'm hoping the seals are the same so I can just order them for my 650.

From buykawasaki.com parts diagrams.

2002 left seal - 92049-1592
2002 left seal - 92049-1571
2002 left o-ring - 671D2585

2004 left seal - 92049-0012
2004 left seal - 92049-0013
2004 left o-ring - 671D2585

Nope the seals are different p/n, but the o ring is the same. Looks like you can just get the seals. I haven't seen the seals yet, but it looks like you need both pieces listed above as "left seal". They might be mating seals or something.

I meant to say the right side seals but if the left ones are different it doesn't look good. The dealer said the 2002 right seals might be pressed into the right casing and that's why there are no part numbers for the seals.

My guess is that they updated the parts list for the P700. Another guess is that they changed rubber compound on the seals. The seals themselves appear to be the same size. If you look at the part description it states Seal-Oil,TCY40x52x8 for the P650 and Seal-Oil HTC40x52x8 for the P700. Now those look like ID,OD, and width dimensions to me.

The P700 parts list shows similar design for the two units; with the P700 having the right seals numbered the same as the left seals.

Aha! I just did a parts search at Ronayers and found this: 92049-1571 is superceded to 92049-0012

92049-0012 is the P700 seal which replaces the old seal in the P650.

I haven't had to do my seals yet, but I can't imagine it is much harder than doing grease seals on a car.

Just order 2 of each seal (92049-0012 and 92049-0013) and you should be good to go.

Good luck.

DWB,
You are correct, the P700 left rear axle seals are now used to replace the left rear axle seals on the P650. I just got my '03 P650 back from the dealership today, and they replaced the 2 original seals and original o-ring on the left side of my rear axle. Lucky for me, it was covered under 6 mo. factory warranty. My receipt listed the p/n of the 2 new seals as -0012 and -0013.

Happy trails...
