Ram Air or Intake
#3
You really need both to get the full effect, or at least cut the vents out of the stock hood so cool air can get into the intake.

I recommend getting neither, and just putting holes in the lid. You can't get a ram air effect (increased airbox pressure) at 50mph. I have an article about ram air tests done on bullet bikes. There was no power increase until they were going well over 90mph. At 130mph (max speed tested) the average increase was 5hp. So if your V was going 130mph you might get 2.5hp.

I have to agree, I have the snorkle and really cant notice much of a difference, with the duals and the pro clutch kit, very little difference.

GREEN700... while I agree mostly with what you are saying, I talked extensively with several people with flow benches & expirience with super bikes ( after talking with them, if you truely want to make power, the last thing I'd do is put holes in the existing filter box )... however, they confirm mostly what you said...
I have however designed my own system for my prairie... that can increase the filter box pressure at much lower speeds... I run 2-3 jet sizes richer than most comparable quads... the disadvantage to this system, is that it must be quite large & obtrusive, to truely catch enough air... mine is incorporated into the front rack, has a built in water skimmer, & raises the air inlet 12' higher than stock, & also holds a "ram air" type cvt cooling air inlet, with a filter... it also holds 2 boat speakers for my stereo system... it is race proven, as I race hare scrambles, & have rolled the quad end over end, during these races... the original design held 2 K&N air filters... my current design ( modified a little since the installation of my 750 cc big bore kit ), incorporates 2 much larger Twin Air filters...

Although 'ram air' sounds cool, you're really not getting a ram air effect, but you are taking in more and cooler air with a new snorkel.
If anyone thinks a better snorkel setup will not improve performance, I'd most definitely disagree. I HAD to go from 138/142 to 152/155 with my setup just to get mine to run at full throttle without cutting out. Taking in that much more air and gas is most definitely going to increase performance.
