Default V Force belt adjustment?

I have 72 hours on my V and have never tightened the belt or done any adjustments to it yet...is this normal? I run the HPD plain spring, I'm thinking of switching to the Dalton overdrive kit(plate, spring, weights). Any thoughts on this??? Thanks-Mudfoot

Mudfoot:

I have the HPD plain, MAchined primary clutch ( yes the whole clutch!!) and Dalton weights. Check the belt deflection as per the shop manual . I "think" it is 1.06 inches at 10 lbs pressure in the middle of the belt. I found mine to be waaaaay out after about 15 hrs. Could ohave been out from the start, who knows. You can get the 0.3 mil shims from Kawi for the secondary. I think I had a .95 in stock. I removed it . tried 2 .3's now I run a single 0.3 mil shim. A little squeak now and then sitting at idle if it is in forward but the belt goes all the way down the sheaves. At least as far as it can go without machining that funky little device Kawi calls a Helix.!!!!!

I believe that would be Waaaay out of adjustment . I had about 2.5"' of deflection ( more than double what it should be) with no squeak. A squeak would have to be 3" plus
