Rear Axle Toast on V Force
#1
Well I just realized that my accident at the GNCC damaged my rear axle. I have about 1/8" runout which translates into huge wheel wobble that makes the quad unridable.
Here is my dilemma.
1) Do I try and have mine straightened or replace it?
2) If I replace it, should I get an OEM or a durablue? I have heard both good and bad about durablue. Some folks call them durabreak and claim that they "snap" rather than bend when stressed. I don't like the sound of that. I'd rather replace ten bent ones than break one and kill myself landing a jump.
3) How difficult is it to remove / replace. Will I need a bunch of gaskets / O-rings / bearings, etc....
4) Has anyone else replaced a V Force axle? If so, please share your thoughts.
This ruins a planned riding trip since I cannot get it fixed before tomorrow. What a pisser.

Homedawg, I was thinking of replacing my axel this winter for next years race season. I looked into Durablue and will probably go that way. The warranty is great, the company is very reputable and the axel is stronger , and lighter. Other than that I have no clue on hoe to change it on our V though. Maybe call and get info from Durablue. Good luck and keep me informed on how it goes.

HomeDawg,
Regardless of what you hear, the Dura-Blue axle is an excellent product. I have ran their axles for years with very few problems. The one axle I did bend was replaced with no hassle at all. They issued a UPS call tag and picked up my axle and had me a new one within 2 weeks. Good, reputable company--you can't go wrong with Dura-Blue.

Thanks for the information dusthoff. For some reason the Yamaha forum seems to attract a younger crowd than the Kawi forum. On this forum, I am used to getting very useful and sincere feedback. When I go to the Yammy forum, I seem to get a lot of "my stuff is better than your stuff" type feedback and it is hard to sift through the BS if you know what I mean.
Kawy,
I will certainly keep you in the loop on how this little project turns out.
Thanks for the replies.
