Excellent!!!. You may want to try some fatter jets as well.

Where in Texas do you ride? I was down there for work a few years ago in San Antonio and made it out to Padre Island for the Offshore Races. I would have loved to go rippin up that island with a set of Sandstars and V!!!

when i got ,y 700p a few months ago i started looking at performance mods air box jetting and exhaust coming from a dirt bike back ground i'm used to a open air box design the air box on 700p is up high apon further inspection i noticed that water stains wheren't on air box lid after some good romps so i canned the lid all together put on an hmf pipe went to 160-165 mains 31/2 out on fuel screw seemed a little flat so i went to 185-180 mains WOW now we're talking it runs night and day differance i have 350 miles on it with this combo with no troubles i haven't seen any body running this big a main yet on 650-700p

Shotgun,
You are right about the volume of air, if you can supply enough air to produce a slight pressure in the air box then the carbs will not supply more fuel to the circuit than necessary. In drag racing or pulling such as yourself I find we need a greater amount of air volume to start than if you are flying down the trail. This is where the extra holes help on the start. As the quad gains speed more air will flow from the front filling the box this is why I do not drill holes at the rear of the box this makes the air hit the back of the box forceing the air move over the top of the filter to the front and start over again. The holes then allow for overflow at higher speeds and allows more volume on the start where it is drasticly needed. I tried to have the air flow into the carbs at all times from rest to full speed. If the carbs starve at all at any time the fuel circuit is interupted causing a flat spot in mid range or near the bottom end. If you have adjusted air screws and jets and there is still a flat spot then the air box can be the problem. I found that the 02 horns will work better with the 03 air box I have been testing a new brand of spong air filter that flows like the K&N but keeps out foriegn matter much better. A fine note is to many holes is not good.

Hey fellas,
Good thread. I've often thought that if a person could take an air mattress compressor, or even and old vaccume cleaner motor and some how rig it to a sealed air box, then you could easily get a positive pressure and it would act very similar to a turbo with low boost at all rpm levels. The only problem that I am thinking about right know is that in order to hook it up, you would need on of those mattress compressors designed to plug into a cigerette lighter and although my experiences with these are non-existant, I bet they wouldn't push enough air. In order to get the air needed, one would have to use a 120V motor with a DC to AC regulator/transformer/or whatever it's called. What do you guy's think?

Alltoys,
I have been working on my 2003 air box set up as you talk about, what do you think of taking the 2002 snorkels and cutting them and attaching them to the 2003 snorkels to get longer snorkels which may speed things up? It looks like they will still fit under the filter, but may restrict some? Let us know what make that new filter is, I like the sponge type myself!
Sent you an email about my clutches, Thanks again can't wait til spring to try them out!!!!

XC800,
Do you know where I can't get some of that snow screen you used on your machine?

How about a small brushless 12VDC fan motor.. much like what is used on a power supply for a computer? They make them the same size, but in different voltages. Now, if the bike is idling, there is not much call for air, but if the bike is running full throttle with a load, the call for air is at it's max... If one were to basically tie a control rod that actuates a slide on the front of the fan along with the throttle, then wallah.. controlled positive pressure.

Sounds good in theory... I'll let you guys think it over and reply. lol

Ride On.

SLP or Starting Line Products out of Idaho. It is a hi flow intake kit. They are designed to mount in a sled hood but they will fit over the vac hose as well

WildWill,
Changing the length will not help I tried it good thought though!! The horns cause a certain amount restriction almost like a Venturi system, if you interrupt the flow with longer horns the fuel does not atomize as well. Leaves the fuel into a droplet form harder to dissipate into the air. The 03 filter box works very well but works better with the 02 horns plus extra snorkel on the right side or air box.

The problem with adding a motorized blower is it does not supply enough air at full throttle and without blow off device the extra air causes a lean condition at lower rpms. A proper blower is worlds apart from a leaf blower or compressor pump to deliver enough air will not work. Size and weight is a definite problem most turbos turn at 30,000 - 50,000 rpm and literally force the air into the intake to have a leaf blower to supply enough volume that a turbo could would be monstrous. A good thought just not practical.
