Default Steering damper for V-Force

I'm somewhat new to all of this but I noticed some guys have a steering damper (Denton steering damper is what I've been seeing) on their V-Forces. What exactly are the benifits to a steering damper and what are the drawbacks? Thanks.

I like the Denton steering damper and for the money is a very good product. I also ride Pennsylvania and believe it is a MUST HAVE up there!! Its kinda like having "sideways suspension".. Helps with bump steer and by stiffing the steering, it helps takes a lot of stress and vibration off the arms. All I can say is jump on the phone and order one! A rebuildable will run you somewhere around $169.00? You wont be sorry!

Marylandatv, thanks for the info.!!! Sounds like something I gotta have......some of the areas we ride is very rocky in spots. Feels like the terrain wants to take the handlebars away from you. One last question.....in regular riding conditions is there any resistance you have to "steer against" with the dampener on it? Thanks again.

Pennsylvania Power Lines! yeeee haaaa! You gotta love them ROCKS!~lol. I will be bouncing over a few this weekend!! There are a few differant setting to change resistance. And your really never steer against yourself , Its a lite resistance. The lowest setting is kind of like stock I guess?, I run in the highest setting and just leave it there! Its just a must have product for up your way and is always one of the first products I buy when setting up my quads.. ~Chris

As well as for anyone riding sand dunes. If you havent experienced Dumont on Thanksgiving with and without the dampner than you probably cant appreciate one, but you should take my advice. "Its your money well spent!" I procrastinated buying one as well for the V because it really does have a great suspension and ride in stock form. What you dont realize is how much better it can be. The dampner will let you go home at the end of the day with alot less sore arms. Bump steer will become a problem of the past for the most part. As Marylandatv said, ride it with the setting all the way up (hardest). It seems stiff to turn just sitting on the quad in the garage, but once you start to ride you wont even notice its there until you start to ride over washboard and rutt's and that would usually rip the bars out of your hands. Great product, five stars!!
