my friend has a 650 prairie and just put some itp 589's on it 25's i think and the tires wear rubbing and it got a big hole in its gas tank does did this happen to anyone else!!!??

very wide tires, with side lugs will rub the gas tank shield, unless C series wheels ( or another wheel with wider offset ), or 1" wheel spacers are used...

I was told by quite a few people I could run 27" Mudlites on stock rims on a 650 and have no rub whatsoever[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img]

I have 26" 589's on my 700 and I'm not even close to rubbing anything. I do have C-Series wheels though.

Yep.... The C=series will also be alot lighter so he can make up for some of the weight he gained from the new tires.

i have 25" outlaws on stock rims. if your buddies 589s are 25 then he should have no rubbing at all. You shouldn't even have issues with larger 589s they have very little in the way of side lugs in any size.

Something's not right here! I'm running 27-12-12s on stock wheels on the rear of my Prairie with no rub. The only way I could see a rub with even smaller tires would be if the swingarm bearings were shot allowing the rear axle to shift side to side in a turn.

CARTMAN308, & DANGEROUS, are right... something is not right... if I had to guess, I'd say the wheels were mounted backwards, so that the offset would not be correct... this is actually a very easy mistake to make, especially if the tires were mounted backwards to begin with... some care must be used when mounting directional tires... if this is the case, you should be able to just switch the tire / wheels to the other side...

if your gas tank, & not just the gas tank shield, has a hole in it, expect an expensive fix... try ronayers for the cheapest replacement...

I too have 27 inch 589's on my stock rims. I have a P700, but there is plenty of room and no rubbing. Newbeatle is right with directional tires. My dealer is good and I have no complaints, but when I got home and looked at my tires (they loaded them into my car for me) the had them mounted wrong. I called and of course I was told the new guy did it. Anyway look into the previuos mentioned ideas. Your buddy should have plenty of room.
