Default 4-wd shot

hello all :
Got a problem with 4wd not switching on. it will come up on the dash but it won't come on to actually make the tires spin. I some time's have to hit the gear selector down on the housing with a hammer for it come on up on the instrument panel.
thanks chris

Not a 100% clear on what's happening and what you are doing.

First it will not alway engage in 4wd right off.. sometimes there is a delay. Also if you are stuck in 2wd sometimes the front tires will not spin when switching to 4wd. Front tires should be moving a little when switching. The dash light is an idiot light only. Tyipically if you have a hard time engaging then if you switch from forward to reverse enough it will engage. I don't like hitting anything with a hammer you shouldn't have to do that. I would clean mud out on the 2wd 4x4 switch. Also a bad key will cause this aswell.

Mine went out & it was my aculator. Kawi's **** poor gasket let water in & blew it all to he!!.. I'd take it off & manually hook it up to your battery & see if it works.. But remember the gear that engages your diff has to be in the correct position for it to work again, infact that also could be your problem. If it is your aculator be prepared to break out the wallet, damn things are extremely expensive
