Default front diff on 650

I changed my front diff fluid on my 650 today ,and the book says to fill it to the last thred on the sight hole. Now i did this and if i wait a few mins i can ad a little more then a little more . So then i rode it and checked it today and i put a little more in . My question is how much does the thing hold . what i drained out wasnt much and im sure i put close to the same amount back in . Do you guys do this or do you just fill it till its full the first time ?

Filling the front diff takes a loooooonnnnnng time! I think the oil takes time to seep into all the nooks and what not. Just make sure your machine is level when you check the level. If it's still below the threads add some more. You rode it for awhile so this will probly be the last time you'll have to add.

Default front diff on 650

As a follow up to this subject, how did each of you fill the front diff? My method was a little
un-kosher. I sat the oil on my hood and ran a piece of aquarium air hose from the oil to the fill hole
after creating a siphon. It worked pretty good, but slow. Several times I wondered whether the
siphon had stopped because the diff looked full, but it just kept taking more and more until I finally
stopped it after it started to slowly run out of the fill hole. Anybody care to share their method of
filling the front diff? There's got to be a better way.

Thanks for any replies.

i take the side plastic off and get a ketchup bottle (cleaned, the ones with a long neck) fill it up like half way and squirt it into a little funnel that i set in the fill hole, i fill the bottle when needed, i usually start with the front diff, change the engine oil, topp the front diff off again then change the rear and top the front off once more.

He he he. Seems like I'm not the only one who scratched his head a little
on this one. A OEM filler hose positioned properly would have been nice!

Thanks trailride.

Fillin this thing ain't rocket surgery. Jack up the right side as high as you dare after it has been drained and the plug replaced. With a squirt bottle of some sort squeze in a little more than the correct amount. Once it's all in let the jack down and allow the excess to run out. Reinstall the fill plug and ride.

Dangerous, you use the same method I do!! WAYYYYYYYY easier. I bought a flexible hose that fits any oil or antifreeze container. You can turn the flow off and on by twisting the top portion where it attaches to the container. Cost $5 at Canadian tire. It has a long hose on it, which makes it easy to get into the fill hole.
