Please help with aftermarket Ignitions on 650
#1
I've been searching and looking all night and still can't seem to find out what ignition module is the best one to have right now for the Prairie 650 or where to buy them at.
Could some of you list some websites etc. on where to buy, what brands are out there, and which ones are prefered?
It seems like the Diamond G module is the one to have but I can't find any info on their website.
Any suggestions or info on others would be greatly appreceated.

All the current offerings work exactly the same. They simply fool the cdi into thinking it is moving about 10mph faster than it is so that the cdi bypasses the reverse curve. This only affect performance from 0 to about 3mph but the difference is well worth buy any of them.
Highlifter is taking orders for a module that they say is unlike any of the other modules currently offered. I've got my name on one. They expect to receive them 1/9 and ship them soon there after. Not sure when i'll be able to hook up and test mine. Work schedule is gonna be rough for awhile but i will let everyone know what i think when i do.
do a search on this forum for DG, Diamond G, Holeshot, Nabor or red650 and you will get a ton of info on them!!!!
good luck

You have to call Diamond G at 714 299-3865. The DG one will show an advantage from 0 to about 30 MPH when used properly. The way in which these things add power confuses alot of people so they think it stops working at 3MPH, or it slows your top end, etc. I remain skeptical about highlifters, (or anyone else's) claim of a superior unit if they use the same pink wire input. You may want to wait for a true igniter replacement, although it may not ever happen.

the only thing the modules to is take away the reverse curve when starting out in forward gears.........I know how they work and what they do. The reverse curve is gone after about 3mph.........meaning that above that the modules will have no difference.
The only way that the modules would make gains above this is to remap the timing curves........the current modules do not do this. It remains to be seen what the HL modules do.

cartman308, you are real close, but there is one missing bit of info here. When the stock igniter "sees" enough speed on its input to inform it to switch to the advanced map, from the reverse/retarded map, it does not switch to the higher advance instantly. With only a light throttle, the RPM's are low enough that both maps are not that far apart. For full throttle, the RPM's are high enough for about a 10 degree difference between maps. It takes the igniter about 3 seconds to reach the new map values, all the while the igniter hooked to the Holeshot is running along the advanced map producing more power. Three seconds at full acceleration can be 0 to 25 MPH or so, but at half throttle, maybe only 0 to 10 MPH. The Holeshot power advantage is really throttle and time dependent, rather than MPH dependent.
You are 100% accurate about the timing re-map. The test for determining if a device is really able to change the timing from the pre-programmed map is very simple: If highlifter's widget does not hook to the Black/White stripe wire (Engine Pick-up), than it is limited by the igniter exactly as all of the other devices currently available. I think highlifters reluctancy to announce the connections before selling them sort of speaks for itself.

thanks for the explination......i think we are both on the same page.........prolly even the same line just seeing the eplaining and seeing the functioning a bit different
Dan at HL said they will get the modules in today (1/7) and hopefully begin shipping them Friday, Monday for sure. If the are shpipped Friday i could feasibly have it in my hands Monday nite/tuesday morning (i work evenings). I'll be sure to let you know how it hooks up. I'm almost positive it's gonna be a pink wire splice but we can always hope!!!!
i'll let you guys know something next week.

I understand you guys perfectly, I'm just concern about one lettle detail: 5 days ago I did blew my acc. fuse and my holeshot stop working and after that I could bearly hit 50 mph compare to 62 , and my bike felt like if I had loose 200cc, how can it effect the timing
after 3mph ?
after 3mph ?

I just find out today that if the holeshot stop working the ingnition fall back on the reverse curve, after 1500 rpm and keep the timing to 10 degree all the way ! that's how it can effect timing
