ok im new here and i have came to ask multiple questions and i hope i can stay now, ive been riding since 99.. thats when i was nine years old u do the math.. any hoo my bike? kaw bayou 220.. yes i know i have read posts here on bayous and heard flames about them but HEY i like mine.. and if u ask me. a bayou is a HELL of a lot better starter bike than any 400ex am i right? lol.. so any way my dad doesnt have any money and theres no way in hell were not gettin new bikes in a long time (also got a p-300 auto) so i want to look into mods... is there any mods a modern knowledged engine(LOL spelling) person do? (i also have a mechanic uncle but nothing to super because i dont wanna f*** it up if u know what im saying) ive looked at cobra silent utility pipes and they look nice and people say clutch and so on.. and how do u change the gear ratios too? i reciently f***ed the carb up (stored for half a year and gas turned into varnash LOL) and for some reason.. when i took it to the dealership and got a new carb put on and fuel lines cleaned out and so on it seems DAMN faster than it did when it was before!(before it was messed up..) and it seems it runs outta gears quick and i bet if i change 4th and 5th i can get it up to 50-60 no prob and STILL have power to go.. dunno why it feels more powerful but it feels like my uncles recon without the top end.. wierd eh? and also i took it out and ran the **** outta it today and for some reason when i shifted to 5th it didnt shift but instead it revved REALLY high(i hit the gas assuming it shifted like normal) so i let off the gas suprised and then it shifted seconds later.. it happend about 10 mins later.. dunno what that is too.. ok well then sorry for long post and hope to be a part of the forum.. GOODNIGHT!

Don't let the quadsnobs in here bug you about your Bayou. They are damn good little quads.
I had two Bayous (220 and 300) up until Nov this year, when I bought a Rancher for me.
Wanted a bit bigger quad that manuvered better, but not a lot more power.
You can mod your Bayou. K&N makes a filter and prefilter, Dyno makes a jet kit,
and Supertrapp makes a IDS2 Quiet core full exhaust for it. Total cost for all thee
would be around $320-340. Will add 2-4 hp and flatten out it's torque curve very nicely.
I am in the process of doing all three to my daughters 220 now. Have the jet kit and K&N filter
installed and am waiting for the Supertrapp to arrive.
BTW, do NOT put a Cobra exhaust on it, The quiet model adds no power, and the regular model
is so loud as to be obnoxious.

I got the Supertrapp http://www.starcycle.com/dirt/supertrapp_atv.html
and the jet kit and filter and prefilter http://www.jackssmallengines.com/atv_kaw_airfilters.cfm
BTW, the correct jet kit and filter is the second one down. It says 1988 - 1989, but it is really thru 1999.
Note that the jet kit must be installed by someone who knows what they are doing. It will have to be tuned
for your quad. DynoJet has very good help available if your uncle needs it. Just call the number that come with the kit. Do all three at once. Do not ride the quad until it is tuned correctly for the new exhaust and filter/prefilter. Too lean can ruin your engine.

Just between you and me, I wouldn't change the clutch until the current one wears out.
You probably won't be able to change gear ratios with a shaft drive.
Do the mods I outlined and you won't want to.
They ship anywhere in the USA.

Well good for you. A lot of kids your age would be happy to have your bayou. We had one for 2 years. It was a tough little machine and was trouble free for us. My wife thought the supension was a little to stiff for her. I thought it was fun to ride. When I store my outboard motor or atv for a longer period of time. I run the gas real low in the tank and then shut the gas valve off and run it until it runs out of gas. Then when I want to use it again I just fill the tank up with fresh gas and it mixes with the little bit of old gas in the tank. Sofar no problems with doing it that way. I hope that this helps you and wish you a lot of luck with your mods.
