Belt is squealing, therefore I don't think it is snapped. A snapped belt should not squeal. Belt light is on, I think it needs a belt deflection adjustment. Any other advice is appreciated.

Is it still running ok? I mean is it only going about 5mph forward? If not then I believe it was the 03's that had the light come on at approx 100 hours. This is to check it out. The reset procedure is simple. As far as the squealing mine started that at about 500 miles.I went ahead and replaced the belt and shimmed it tighter this time..This is not a big deal if you are mech inclined.
Most of those came with either a 1.4 mm shim or 2 .6mm shims.Mine had the 1.4.I went ot the dealer and go 2 .6 shims,a .8 shim and a 1.0 shim. I put the new belt on and used the 1.0 shim. This thing performs better now than ever. With the 1.0 I was at 22mm deflection. For some reason Kaw set these up loose from the factory. If you go to ATVPOWER.com there is all the help you need. There is instructions on how to make a compresser for the driven pulley.Hope this helps.

I believe you do.On an 02 you unplug the the trip switch (the rectangular box on the belt cover...two wire) then you unplug the two 4 prong connectors (black and gray) and plug them in their opposite plugs.Turn the key on for several seconds and the 4wd indicator will flash. After a few seconds it should reset.I would go into ATVPOWER.com and confirm this but I believe I am right. If it were me I would get the shims before I take it apartI would bet anything it either has the 1.4 or 2 .6mm ones.If so Try using just one of the .6mm shims.Thats what most of these guys are using and some are using none but that makes it pretty tight.
