Default Mod crazy

I was just looking over what I have become. My ATV has become my obsession. I see a mod I got to have it. Well for those of you out there, like me, let me help with the lessons I have learned. 1st don’t have a wife. You will be in the dog house with your 4-wheeler.

The first thing I did was get tires and rims. They actually arrived before I got the bike home. That’s how bad I am. Moded before it hit the trail. Tires are a no brainier. The C rims looked good, in the picture and provide added room for bigger tires. The 28 in mudlites are on the what’s next list. The only complaint about the rims is they don’t hold that good look for long. I guess I could clean them with something to get the funk off but back to the mud I go.

The next thing was a belt. About 1200 miles and the belt let go. That’s when I found this site and the wealth of info on how to find, and then do these mods. The new belt turned into a black spring which then I had to have the Dalton plain white spring. Spring selection is up to the rider needs and conditions. I based mine off of one of the many posts. I wish I could find the guy who did the very extensive test on the springs. Props to the people who spend their time to help others they will never know or meet.

The best money I have spent is on my DG Holeshot. The power off the line this thing gave me is great. I have a winch and heavy tires out front and pulling the front tires off the ground wasn’t going to happen. 20 min. of work and hang on. And one side effect to the module is the very heated debate on the new HL module. It will it won’t. It has captivated me. I can’t sit down with out going to those topics first. But lets not forget the new CDI. Some of the post on those two subjects have been very entertaining.

The headlight mod has made me very happy. 11.00 bucks apiece and I can see way down the trail. The low beams are spread out and provide good lighting. Hit the high beams and the beams meet in the middle and provide a ton more lighting than stock. If you ride at night this is a great mod to do.

I did the Nyroc exhaust mod the other day and noticed a difference. I don’t like the added DB’s but the power is good. I have to say it wouldn’t have been so loud if I hadn’t cut a hole in the side of the muffler when I was driving the drill bit in as far as I could get it. I’m fixin to get the Supertrapp IDS2 in the next week or so. Looks better and hopefully will perform better.

The last thing to tell you about is the Dial-A-Jet. This has been a very nice mod so far. Just got it tuned in yesterday. Off throttle has been improved without a doubt. The mid range feels like turbo kicks in. Maybe not that hard but the grin factor was in. And talkin about customer service. I have been an aircraft mechanic for over 15 years, so when I broke the brass fitting off in the float bowl I knew I was a dumb a@#. I called Thunder Products Friday morning and ask for a replacement. Asked how much it would cost, after all it was my fault. Lom, Lon whatever his name is said don’t worry about it. Well that fitting was sitting in my mail box Monday when I got home from work. I have no idea how it got here so fast. I’m in S.C. and it came from MN. After a couple of runs to dial it in I was cooking. The front wheels really come in a hurry. I can already see big gains with this installed.

I hope I may have helped someone with a little info. I look at all this and think I wrote to much and spent too much money. I guess I can slow down and do some work on the house. Oh has anyone seen that BoonDocker nitrous system. That looks cool.

I'm with ya Davinator.......had most of the mods you see below before I even took delivery on my V. Every time I see a widget that is "other than stock" I HAVE to have it. Been there with the wife/doghouse thing also. We're currently having a house built that is two stories with a walk-out basement (3 total floors). I'm so obsessed that I had the builder install double opening french doors on the basement level to be able to roll the quads into the basement. Our new house does have an oversized double attached garage also but it's not heated.......the basement is. Am I sick or what?.......you can relate though, right?

Great Post---I also drilled a hole out the back of my muffler performing the NYROC mod. Nothing I couldnt fix though with a cutting torch and a brazing rod.

Good post Davinator!
I just spoke to Lonn at Thunder Products yesterday when I placed an order for dial-a-jets to go my P650. So YOU are the guy who overtightened the brass fittings! LOL I think I read your post somewhere recently about that problem and I asked Lonn about it (not knowing it was you who did that)...he said that's a very rare problem and that I should just tighten the fitting to be snug to avoid that problem.

Anyway, I am looking forward to installing the dial-a-jets, doing the Nyroc Mod, Napa hose snorkel mod and installing a twin air filter all at the same time. Just waiting on some of the goodies to arrive in the mail. I will try to do some timed drag test runs before and after the mods and report back on this forum (in a similar format as the timed drag tests on asphalt that I performed and reported last summer with the DG holeshot, P700 belt, P700 prim. spring and EPI black spring).

Happy trails...

I agree with this post 100%..........my wife actually told me no more mods until I pay off my truck......so guess what, I've been working overtime and even picked up a 2nd odd job just to pay off my truck by June. Now what would possess you to work that hard other than this.

Great post and so true on the obsession part, all I do is read about the Napa snorkel or the Nyroc muffler mod and now even the dial a jets and wonder which will be next.

davinator, what headlights did you replace it with?? and where to get them. I've been looking for something like that, we ride at night alot and a little mud and dust and you can't hardly see that woopty doo before you hit it.

Thanks

Meangreen: Wagner 6260a from Napa. They cost me 11 bucks each and took half hour 45 min to put in. Figured out to adjust them while I was doing install. Felt dumb because I could have adjusted them long time ago. Had one to low and always bothered me but never thought about it until I turned them on.
