Default really dumb stupid question...

A friend of mine told me to take out the square bold out or the exhaust right by the tip.. he said it would make it sound better and have less back pressure.. if there is a shread of truth to this let me know... if not tell me so i can shove it back in his face. he is one of those people that thinks he knows everything about everything. the funny thing is , i don't know if he has ever even so much as sat on a 4-wheeler, so how can he know anyting about them.. hahahaaaaaa

thanks guys

Took it out of my polaris. I was nearly convinced that it sounded different and the mechanic at my local dealer nearly convinced me that it would run better. Said it was only there because of us law restriction on noise levels or something.

I think the only reason it is there is for a cleanout, you're supposed to take the bolt out and run it every once in a while to clean out the build up of carbon in the pipe. I've heard of guy's having to take a screwdriver and shove it in the hole to break the carbon up.

I don't think it would hurt anything to leave it out, & may make less back pressure... it would, however be easier for mud & or water to get into your exhaust....

I doubt you are gonna notice any performance improvement. Don't think it'll hurt anything, either. I would NOT recommend removal of the spark arrester, if you ride Nat'l. Forests, state forests, etc., for obvious reasons.

I was told you don't want to run for long times with it out; something about backpressure and extra engine wear. It does clean out carbon out of the muffler which is a good thing.

If you take out that bolt and then pull out the lil screen thingy in there you will be removing your spark arrester. Without this you wont be able to ride at most parks, both private and public. Many states require it but I dought that you will ever be cited for it. (unless you run into an over zealous Barney Fife!)

I don't think I would run with it out. A hot piece of carbon may fall through and start a fire. The minimal sound/performance improvement isn't worth the risk.
