They are both good. The raptor is considered better in drag racing and wide open dune riding, and the KFX is considered better in the woods/trails/just all around fun. The KFX might could stay with a raptor for a short distance, but I think after that, it would be passed . I've heard raptors are "tipsy" but never ridden one, so I don't know. I'm pretty sure they both handle quite well.

I am considering trading to a sport quad for trail riding, no racing. The z400/kfx400 and the Raptor were at the top of my list. I can not make up my mind. I know the Raptor is like 500 more MSRP but on www.atvtraderonline.com they are priced very close. People keep saying the Raptor is a little top heavy, but the chasis seems to be similar in size to the 400's. If it is top heavy, it can not even come close to my Polaris sportsman, so that would probably not be an issue.

I bought my KFX400 a couple weeks ahead of my friend who purchased a Raptor. They are a lot more different than you might think. The Raptor has a tone of mid range power where as the KFX400 has it all at the bottom end. The Raptor isn't a little top heavy. Its very top heavy. You realy have to adjust your riding style going between the two bikes. As for price you can get them both for about the same price. My quad as it is now will beet my friends stock raptor from beggining to end and it handles better to boot. As I understand it there are several vendors who sell lowering kits for the raptor, that might be all that is needed to make the Raptor ride as nice as the KFX400.

SandandMudhills, how much did you have to put into your 400 to compete with the Raptor. When you say tons more mid range is that a difference of a quad length on a hill or 5 quad lengths. I want something that will handle good and be very quick. They both have to be a huge change from my sportsman 600 right?

You dont have to put anything into the 400 in order to "compete" with the Raptor. The raptor isn't much faster stock vs stock. Also I didn't say the Raptor has "tons more mid range" I said the raptor has a ton of mid range. The KFX has a ton down low but it also has a respectable mid range. Another plus for the KFX is its quick throttle response, add that to power down low and you can pull wheelies all day long. The Raptor no doubt has more power potential so if its all out power that you want the Raptor may be better.
