Default Quick flywheel key installation question

I am going to install a 4 degree flywheel key in my quad this weekend. I want to make sure that the offset in the key is going the right way. I drew a quick pic http://truess.50megs.com/flywheel%20key.bmp If that was flywheel side of a 650 and the F was the front of the machine is that the correct way for the offset to go? Thanks

oops copy and paste url into browser

if i see it right meaning the f is front and the r is rear and you're looking at the flywheel and the motor turns to the left that would be 10* advance and if the motor goes to the right it would be retared 10*

Default Quick flywheel key installation question

I am waiting for my key from Mike Penland and have some of the same questions you have. When you do figure it out--please post results
Also take a look at this link, it may be helpful

http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/TimingFlyWheelFAQ.htm

Where did you get your key??
The link above seems to describe a stock key with a notch cut out, and you have to rotate the flywhheel to make sure one end of keyway is butted up against the flywheel but the key doesnt seem to fill in the whole flywheel slot????
if this doesnt make sense--go to link and look at pictures

let us know

thanx

that doesn't show the magneto hes talking about so i would have to see the cut keyslot in the crank and mag. but ares are the same size so actually we use a wider than stock key and cut down the top right and bottom left as per my so called drawing on webshots under ignition in signature.

Default Quick flywheel key installation question

Ok I got the key installed last night. Here is a pic of what it looked like installed. I got the key from D&D racing. Its a 4 degree key for a 03 Arctic Cat F7. There was no slop in the key. It actually was kind of tricky to get the flywheel lined back up because of the tight fit. But with alittle patience it went back on without excessive force. I haven`t had alot of time to test it But I must say I impressed with power it gained especially when my HL module is swithed on.

couldnt quite confirm from your picture but if the crankshaft slot is straight up and down at 12:00
Then the offset should be at 11:00 ??? or 1:00 o'clock??

from that picture it seems the flywheel is a tad to the left of the key. correct? which would mean your motor turns to the left when it's running correct? that would be advanced.
