I'm looking for feedback on these tires. How do you like them? Pros and cons? How do they compare to other tires you've used?

sledheadrich do a search for the bighorns. i to would like to know on the bighorns & the atrs but know one can put a finger on either one. bighorns have to much sidewall grip, weight. atrs sidewalls pop like a overfilled ballon. i did the search the other day, but know im really confused on which one to get.

I have friends with both. Their ATR's haven't popped, and their Bighorns don't have too much sidewall traction (it is more, but not too much). They both are good tires.

You guys should let those little differences decide for you.

If you ride on sharp rocks alot, get the horns. If you see a little mud, get the horns.

If popping isn't an issue, and you never see mud, the ATR's are probably a little bit more desireable overall.

Mike penland uses horns because of the durability. He rides a whole lot harder than anyone I know and he needs the durability to win races. I think Kilby uses them too, if I remember right. He probably rides harder than Penland just because he rides modified class.

Horns have 50% tread in contact with the ground, and it is also deep tread. That means they wear longer and not be nearly as suceptible to puncture. I think if you were always on a nice dirt road the ATRs are going to be lighter and handle better. I think Horns are better for my trails just because of mud.

You decide what's best fof you based on your trails.

BUT does the bighorns wobble at speeds like the atrs do. i like to go fast, play in the mud and race but i would not ride as hard as M.P or KILBY.

I have had Bighorns on my 650 for about 6 months now and I love em,just enough of an aggresive tire without being overbearing.I have gotten up to maybe 50 and no noticable wobble. It's a great all around tire,if you ride alot on hardpack and not much riding in loose stuff then the ATR's might be a better choice. The only comparison have is the stock tires and the Blackwaters I had on my P400,let's put it this way..when they wear out and I don't see that happening anytime soon,I would buy them again in a hearbeat! I'm hoping that Maxxis will come out with more sizes though,I would like to have 27" Bighorns and that's only for the extra ground clearance.

Tires don't "Wobble" at high speeds by being bigger, better, having cool tread, or being heavier. They wobble if they are not balanced, or if they are really crooked. I have a cheap bubble balancer that fixes wobble. Mud can make wobble, but I almost never get that kind of mud. The stock dunlops are so cheap and light that they dont need balancing. Heavier tires need it.

Steering jerk due to having a larger diameter tire is caused by poor alignment. The Prairie alignment spec should be 0 to 1/16 toe in, in my oppinion with the rider sitting on the quad. The manual says 0 to .79 toe in. That much toe in makes steering jerk.

Are you saying that your bike only does 50mph with the Bighorns? I know they are a bit heavier but I can't handle 50!

Hey Nyroc. I've had ATR's on my quad for over a year now. I've never had a flat. They have taken me everywhere I've asked them to and nice dirt roads isn't one of them.

From what Ive seen the ATRs like plugs?~LOL. Maybe my buddy Jim who is on this form also can chime in? He has about a dozen? and there have been a few others that ride with us that have had the same problems. I ran the 25in Mud lites and good thing I own a pump and plug kit Because thumbs down there too.~lol Im really Not meaning to put them down because I like some of the ITP products, I have Holeshots on most all of my Sport Quads! And thought about this tire when I got my Prairie, but I would never buy the ATRs,, or Mud Lites again....
The BIG HORNS have been the best tire for a Utility Quad Ive ever owned. I have done some Deep Snow, Mud, and Ride VERY rocky conditions and these tires are holding up and handling is top of the line! unbelievable matter of fact Because I have nailed some rocks that would bust most rims! And just knew I had a flat! but no flats yet!? (And I have Busted some rims and tires, Stay away from The C wheels too! they crack!~LOL) I also like to go fast and have pushed the Prairie to the limits with no wobble or anything like that? Top speed for me by the way is in the med to upper 60's!, Hoping with this new CDI I'll be hitting the 70s from time to time? Pros and Cons? ~Cons~ I cant think of any?? Everybody I know with this tire loves it! ~Pros!~ Yes! it what the pros use, durability and a great handing all around tire! From what I've seen when it comes to extremes! The Big Horns, may only be for Riders that truly go there?!~LOL You wont be sorry.. ~Coop

PS: Is it just me or do I sound like a Maxxis spokes person? Hummm? Maybe they need me on there Team? ~LOL

You do sound like a sales rep. Any idea where I can find a good price on a set of Bighorns?
